Is anyone Watching KPHE 44 ???

Can Anybody watch Channel 44?

Why would a station set up shop right next door to a Big powerful station.
44 is right next to the big UPN affiliate on 45.

I have to put an Attenuator on the coax from the outdoor aerial, just to watch them.

I can get KPHE well in northwest Phoenix. I believe the closer you are to South Mountain, the more interference you'll receive from KUTP.

Eventually, if the digital conversion ever gets completed (from where it stands now, there are just too many analog receivers still in use that it would cause uproar), KUTP will reside at Channel 26, which would put an end to interference. But, that's at least five years away.

Personally, I'm waiting for a local station to put "The Tube" on one of its digital subchannels.

After that weekend when they had the same picture frozen on screen for at least a couple of days, I'm not even sure the people who own the station watch it.

Eric's correct about distance from South Mountain. Here at my palatial west Chandler estate, I pick up all sorts of interference from KUTP. But when I tune in from farther away from South Mountain, most of the interference goes away.

I wonder what will happen when KQBN-LP 43 finishes their construction and moves their transmitter from the current Sun City location (107th Ave & Grand) to South Mountain.

They might just have the DVD changer that controls the programming at the transmitter site, and just don't want to climb the mountain every day to fix it.

Maybe I'm wrong, but I thought Channel 43 was going to be a digital LPTV. I also wonder if interference from KPAZ is one of the reasons why KTVP-LP 64 has yet to move to Channel 22.

Una Vez Mas' application to move KQBN-LP's TL to South Mountain doesn't say anything about digital LPTV. But given that their CP expires in Apr 2007, and that they also own analog KPDF-CA 41, a digital LPTV could serve as a second channel in the same way that full stations use second channels for their DTV signal - that might be their plan.

KTVP-LP still has six months left on their CP to move to ch. 22, but I wouldn't be surprised if interference was an issue. I don't get interference from KPAZ on ch. 20, but I get it on ch. 22.

I thought somewhere I read about a "KPHE-DT" or "KTVP" on channel 43 in the works carrying the Almavision Spanish religious network, but 43, 44, and 64 are all owned by different companies. KTVP on Channel 64 is still carrying America's Store, not Almavision.

If KTVP-LP decides not to move to Channel 22 because of interference by KPAZ, that will be a non-point after the digital transition has been completed since KPAZ has chosen Channel 20 for its post-transition position. They'll have to move from 64 any which way or surrender their license.

The Tube

The Tube is a GREAT music video network; I am receiving it on 13.3 from Tucson's KOLD-DT (CBS) affiliate. I read that Raycom has launched The Tube on digital sub channels in the markets that they operate stations. I live in the Ahwatukee area and have a UHF directional pointed towards Tucson because I can actually receive better digital signals from 100 miles away than from 3 miles away. Now it's the complete opposite for analog signals but that’s another story. If you are in the Chandler or south Tempe area and have an ATSC tuner try pointing a outdoor antenna to the south southeast and scan for channel 32.

Unfortunately, I have the outdoor antenna facing South Mountain in order to get the local DTV signals. Once in a while, I can get KTTU-DT and from where I am, but that is the only Tucson DTV I can get.

I've contacted the GM of KTVK, Mark Higgins, to suggest that he add The Tube to a subchannel of the station's digital signal because they don't carry any HDTV programming at all being an independent station (he is a champion of music video programming since he developed "NewsMix" while at the FOX affiliate in Orlando and when he left to run WB 61 and later KTVK, he brought the format here). He didn't know whether or not the business model would be feasible for the station.

I also e-mailed KNXV programming about it but never got any response. They should have an extra subchannel available after ABC News Now went Internet-only, unless they want to save it for Scripps co-owned Shop At Home.
