Is bay area radio in a slump????

Let's look at the facts........the doghouse much loved and much hated morning show, yet they had the ratings to prove the naysayer's wrong, and what happened....they get fired.....then the bay goes through format changes like it's on a on-again-off-again diet plan, first let's bring in TOP 40, now let's take it away, then THE DRIVE, then country music with the bear, now it's some dude named MAX, spanish stations popping up all over the place, stations being sold, stations being bought, no real competition in morning drive anymore, several stations playing pretty much the same playlist as the "other guys", now we have a NEW station coming online, rumored to be a HOT TALK on the FM dial?????? it just seems to me that the bay area has lost it's idea of what it is sopossed to be as a top 5 market, hell, I still remember the "hatrid" between KMEL and WILD 1077/949, now they are "brothers" owned by the same parent company. there is no real challenge anymore, except from the new kid in town, satellite radio, which some people are now "buying" into as a alternative, pretty sad if you are forcing your audience to "pay" for there music.....how can we improve this once vibriant and hard hitting market, and not recycle talent and ideas that have already been here and failed ???? they need the advice of the guy on CNBC's "MAD MONEY" that guy is not only funny, but he gives good advice. IN MY OWN OPINION!!!

We'd probably look twice at your post if it wasn't so painfully hard to read the first time, with all the spelling errors and "I Love Doghouse and everyone else sucks since they've been fired" schtick. Go back and look at the ratings, then, let's talk about facts.

Mods, Can we just get a separate board started for Doghouse Fans and Indie 103.1 (LA) critics?

Since about 1994 is the answer to your original question. Two companies now own
15 stations in sf...They are both housed in format factories on Townsend and Battery Streets...Every Mkt they are in has the same bunch of formats...Big
Corps like it that way, because it's interchangable...Kinda Like Coca Cola
you open a bottle in Atlanta and it's the same bottle you open in Peking.
Ideas are expensive, and if you fail it's even MORE expensive. So why try anything new, lets just recycle what we know will work fairly well. Remember
we have stock holders...They want dividends...Bonneville beats Infinity to the air with MAX...Oh Sh## what do we do now ? Ok FM Talk, so far based on this
sites information they have one syndicated Morning Show (Carrola) and an alegedly local show Darian Maybe, who is in LA, and could be doing the show out of the Infinity Factory down there...Local Radio, yah right, like Karel on KGO...from his den in LA...Live Semi Local Radio...
But I digress, you see all 106.9 is gonna be is the SF version of KLSX in LA.
with a few SF only shows, why ? because it's cheap,it works, they already have deals in place...and they know what they are getting...My prediction/Guess is Bonneville Blows up Max in about 2or3 more books, like they did to the Drive and the Bear and the CHR thing they started with, and they try somthing new, The Flavor of the month Corp. Format, Then Infinity flips KFRC or 106.9
to Jack or whatever they wanted to before Bonneville beat them to it.

Look at KIOI, Just so you don't think I'm picking on just Infinity,
Bleu in the morning,a tired act with new call letters, The Sylvia Chacon Live for 5 hrs, then an afternoon Show on tracks from another CC Station,
Then John Tesh (syndicated)on tracks from 7-Mid and repeated Mid to 5am.
Wow now that's original...But it's Cheap, and we know what we are getting. Tested and Sanitzed for your protection but mostly ours...

KGO is Live 24/7, I know Edell, but its live and it used to originate at the KGO studios, he now works fom home. Brinker live on wknds etc.

KCBS is Much the same thing, with the exception of the CBS TV stuff the simulcast. 60 mins etc.

They both do very well in the ratings. Live Local Radio, responsive, interesting
dynamic...Not Getting that on Music radio, You used to listen for the music and the personalities, now it's tested liner cards and canned sweepers from some corp factory with "YOUR CALL LETTERS HERE" and the music ? Hell where's my I-Pod
or XM or Sirus or CD Player...Music without the Spots and Talking Board ops.

Music radio is lost, and they don't have anyone interesting on the air comming up, small Mks, because where all the small stations were there are now sattlite dishs and computers. Meet the staff.

Boo Hoo. Radio sucks. Corporations are evil. Blah Blah Blah..

We see the same post a hundred times...and we're supoose to care.

Why do they let 12 yr olds be members.

I think you mean BAY AREA radio sucks!!!!!!

name 1 GOOD radio station in the bay area right now, 1 that has a great sounding morning show, a cool midday/afternoon dude or chick, an awesome drive home/evening host, actually giveaway cool stuff, hard hitting promo team, nice website, weekend "talent" that don't sound like they sell cars during the week. oh, and a format that doesn't remind me of elevator music????? and talk radio don't count!!! good luck finding 1, they all have been blown up along time ago.

Re: bay area not on the map

Perhaps if you just stopped your ranting about such "meaningful" topics, you would have realized I wasn't talking about local radio at all. I was addressing the consistant stupidity of your posts. You seem to think that there is a posting quota on this board that forces you to post any crap.

This topic has been addressed numerous times before recently.

Do you really need your ego to be stroked that badly.

HEY, QUIT YOUR WHINING, ANYONE COULD CARE LESS, GET YOURSELF AN IPOD, XM, COMCAST, AND DO WHAT EVERYONE ELSE IS DOING.

Would that you would content yourself with listening to the same instead of SHOUTING your opinions on everything possible.

As was pointed out to you earlier (by someone other than myself) you don't have a daily quota of posts, you know ...
