Is BLX Flirting?

For a while, I've been hearing a mix of 80s and 70s hits in the morning on BLX, could Cumulus be flirting a little or is this just their satellite fed DJ acting like a fool and straying off their format. Afternoon seems to be normal. BLX is a highly rated station in the Mobile market, even down here, people enjoying the silky smooth sounds of BLX.

With the recent changes to DLT, BLX will need to step up their game to keep their audience. Doing this is saying to their loyal audience "Switch to our sister station, DLT"

Rob,

Steve Harvey sometimes plays older songs during his morning show (a flashback mix, or back in the day song), stations (morning shows) do this all the time. #2 BLX caters to a younger demo (Hip Hop & R&B), DLT to a older demo (Urban AC). Both stations are very different in music.

The PD's and stations know what they are doing to keep their audience. I suggest you learn the difference between formats.

I do remember a time when BLX had a local morning show. They would talk about Mobile and even the Pirate Festival in Destin every June. Me listening to AAZ? I'd rather have my radio turned off.

Clear Channel started this mess putting Harvey on hip hop/rnb stations and his show is more for the urban ac audiences. He even airs opposite Joyner on the sister stations in some markets. If only Cumulus would drop Harvey in Mobile and Tallahassee and Macon and go for a show that matches the format, like Rickey Smiley, Russ Parr or the newly syndicated Breakfast Club. That can fill the void.

I thought about suggesting BLX go back to a live/local morning show... but they're known for treating their staff so well that one has already "quit this bitch" live on air. Cumulus Mobile should probably stick with the cheap VT and syndicated jocks.
