IS CBS THE LARGEST GROUP OWNER IN HOUSTON NOW?

Not really. CBS and Clear Channel now own 6 stations. The reason why CC had to sell Mix and Mega was because they weren't allowed to have more than 6 stations in one market, i believe. Before the sale, CBS had only 4.

Liberman has seven stations. Yes, the FM's are rimshots and the AM's include 880 in Conroe. But all considered Houston market proper.

hmmm. i thought it was the law that no radio network should have more than 6 stations in one market.

The definition of "largest group owner" shouldn't really be determined by how many stations someone owns. It's really a question of how much revenue each cluster brings in. A cluster can have a lot of stations that bill virtually nothing. When it comes to revenue, I don't know who leads in Houston now.

If you count radio and tv properties from all of Houston proper Liberman would be first, followed by Univison, then CBS.

Liberman has KZJL-DT/61 Houston, KTJM/Port Arthur, KJOJ-FM/Freeport, KEYH/Houston, KJOJ/Conroe, KNTE/El Campo, KQQK/Beaumont, KXGJ/Bay City, KQUE/Houston, and KSEV/Tomball. (The limit is 8, eliminating KXGJ and KNTE from the Houston market, but both stations are audible in some parts of the metro.)

Univision's line-up includes KXLN-DT/45 Rosenberg, KFTH-DT/67 Alvin, KQBU/Port Arthur, KOVE/Galveston, KAMA/Deer Park, KLTN/Houston, and KLAT/Houston.

CBS has KILT-AM & FM/ Houston, KIKK/Pasadena, KLOL/Houston, KKHH/Houston, and KHMX/Houston.

FCC regulations state in markets like Houston, one company may own a total of 8 radio stations. They are limited to 5 of a service, that is no more than 5 FM or 5 AM.
