Is Classic Rock 101.1 going away?

Would this change the station classification to classic rock? Surely it won't be like an 'active rock' station with many classics added, though Some stations in NJ kinda do the same thing (WRAT & WDHA) ... and Heck there is even a noticable difference between x985 Greenville and 106.5 The End Charlotte even though they're both alternative rock.

Paging someone in Charlotte who might want to try and grab the historic WROQ calls 😀
Here's an idea. 63 Big WAYS, a 50s/60s station which has the old WAYS liners, could get the WAYS letters since the last station to have them went off the air.

It is propped up by a co-owned rock-leaning classic hits station 95.7 the Ride, which seems to do well 12-plus but wasn't listed for many years. The letters are and always have been WXRC.

I'm guessing that it might just be called "rock." It's not classic, new or alternative...but a bit of each
I’d say it’s Mainstream Rock but most like the “next gen” classic rock format tried on stations like WLLZ in Detroit or WCHI in Chicago or just straight up mainstream rock. Emphasis on 80s and 90s with some 70s and 00s smashers thrown in. They’ve scrapped the little bit of new music they used to play, so it’s not active rock. This leaves X-98.5 as the only station in the market playing new rock, but it’s an alt station.

Me and Chris have talked about this, but if Audicy is smart they keep the WROQ calls, but if they were to either go AC or even classic hits we discussed it could be Q101 or 101Q. Those calls are legendary. Curious is there have anybody more technical then me do some URL sniffing as to the clue what is ahead!

WAYS Conway is still licensed but has a silent STA. Those calls won’t be available until the station has been off the air one year which automatically cancels its license.

I wonder about a Gold-Based CHR format, similar to the Recent Direction of Party 107.7 in Norfolk Va (WMOV - Formerly "MOViN") ...

With a Slight Lean of Rhythmic or Hot AC, maybe?

Would Almost Qualify as
"80s & 90s Throwbacks / Classic Hits"
Similar to the Old .. "🌎Fm" ..

We’re just a couple of hours away from JB&B ending at 10, still no idea what will happen on 101.1!

Here’s another possibility - they continue to run the classic rock format for a while, jockless, before debuting something new? Nothing has said any change will happen at 10am today, just no Stoneman and the end of JB&B with Rock 101 “going away” at an unspecified date or time.

Scratch that - just heard an updated liner from Stoneman which stated “Classic Rock 101.1 “will be gone today” (or something like that) and urged listeners over to 93.3.

Listening to WROQ now during the 9am hour Friday on their reported last day. It’s amazing that their regular programming liners and promos like their commercial-free block that airs “everyday” after JB&B are still running. Guess we’ll see in 19 mins as I’m typing this.

Yup, they’re still running commercial free music promos starting at 10am 🤣 sort of odd they’re ending JB&B today when this isn’t their final show.

Legal ID hit at 10am straight in to “Crazy Little Thing Called Love.” Still classic rock.

They Must be going change format Later as i heard the stoneman saying Classic rock 101. going away

They might be changing at Noon as stoneman said something about Noon
