Is Classic Rock 101.1 going away?

If iHeart Ever Decides to Change 104.9 WROO.
Eh, They Can Call It "The Rooster" 🐓 Big Wow.
(Matches Their Call Letters & a 'Nod to the G'Cocks).

It'll be either Oh So Great, or Oh So Sorry.
(More Of the Same / Just a Drop in the Bucket).

Ignoring the Void doesn't make it disappear.

Filling the Hole (AC/Classic Hits) Could be Very Refreshing and Satisfying ... But Doing That Efficiently & Maintaining It Does Involve Some Carefully Directed Muscle Movements, and then, Maybe Some Bowel Movements Also As Well, to Unload The Leftovers.🍀

WKBC has them covered very well. I think it uses a satellite format.
Ironically, 97.3 WKBC is also known as "Mix"

if Urban One is Able to Purchase 97.3 ...
Maybe "The Mix" Can Join "Mix Charlotte."

Between 97.3/99.3/100.9 - They Would Have Most of the Coverage Footprint as 107.9 - Plus Some Extra Mountainous Areas.

97.3 fits the coverage holes nearly perfectly, Complementary to 99.3/100.9 in the areas they previously had covered on 107.9

Is (or can) WKBC be considered a Charlotte Market Station? In other words, would adding 97.3 count as a Charlotte Station if it was Added to U1's portfolio, if they Simulcast WLNK/WMXG - or not if WKBC is a standalone station in the Hickory area as it is ...
Maybe w/ Ratings wise too?

I'm actually liking Big Buck! It's pretty much the country equivalent to The Planet as you here 70's 80's, 90's, and some 00's country. Yes the imaging is quirky and hokey, but for the listeners they are targeting it might work. They are going for the Cryin, Lovin' Leavin' crowd that would've been young in the 90's who now are in the 25 to 54 demo. Will it work only time will tell, but I like it so far.

R1’s not buying that. ‘KBC is not licensed to any part of the market (Wilkes County is not in the actual market), and would serve no value. The fact that the two stations have the same moniker is merely a coincidence.

Yes, WKBC is a Suburban Signal, so i Doubt it .. but 97.3 has coverage in Hickory, Statesville and even up to Salisbury - all areas that Mix lost moving off of 107.9

I can hear WSRV in Greenville on US-25 South of Interstate 185 (Ware Place) before Spartanburg's Translator W246CV starts to take over ...

WSRV is ok in Most of Anderson County, except perhaps the Powdersville area, I can hear them up 85 until about the US-29 interchange (exit 34).

But better yet is WCON on 99.3 which does which makes it up and into some parts of (west) Greenville.

WMXG also on 99.3 seemed ok for me recently down Interstate 85 until about the Greenville County Line near Greer. I wonder how much coverage will change (if & when) Mix finally turns on their Stereo Carrier.

100.9 WLNK sounds so much better than 99.3 (comparable to when Mix was on 107.9) but signal is limited due to Translator interference from W266DC and is 5 seconds behind 99.3 - I think they should consider Synchonizing their Signals for Mix 100.9/99.3 but it takes some extra effort.

I remember Earth FM was Great to Simulcast on 2 Synchronized Frequencies & Sounded Even Better ... Plus it Was Fun to Seemlessly Flip Back & Forth Between them (103.3/95.5) and not even hear an interruption in my car's audio system. Air1 hasn't Synchonized WLTE/WLTS since they took over (they probably won't or maybe they can't if it's satellite fed.)
WSRV is probably one of the most impressive signals in the south. Maybe some of the Raleigh stations rival it. I’m in Bremen Ga and pick up WSRV. Based on the crow flies, Bremen (WSW from tower) is the same distance from tower as some of the exits off 85 between Anderson and Greenville (East from tower). That is 75 miles! Most 100K watt stations average 55 to 60 miles, as the crow flies.

A Few Years Ago, I Was Surprised to Tune into WSRV (During Overnight Tropo) From South Georgia (in The Tifton area - Over 200 Miles away). Also in the Area, I Was Able to Hear Some Stations From Jax FL as well - 102.9 WEZI & 101.5 WSOL - While Near Sylvester GA, (About 150+ Miles Away.) Clearly, But Very Briefly.

Also, took a Plane From Fort Lauderdale to St. Louis. Along The Way, I Heard WSRV (and WTPT) Clearly From Below, While at (36k Feet) over Albany GA, and Between/Until The Route Took Us Over Birmingham Alabama as well. (Both Sounded Like a Local Station - WSRV at 200+ Miles, and WTPT From 250-300+ Miles Away - With a Perfect Line of Sight, Looking Northeast toward the Horizon, During a Beautiful Sunrise, Was a Very Impressive experience.

Perhaps not in this situation, but radio stations have been bought and moved to an adjacent market. For example, 105.3 was a beloved small town station in Gaffney, and then it was bought and they moved the transmitter to Gaston County becoming a Charlotte station.

Again, they’re not buying it to make up for lost coverage.
It would seem they would want to make up for lost coverage and lost listeners. Unless they are only concerned about the core market and not distant listeners. But they had a wide coverage area for Mix on 107.9, but apparently they decided WBT was the best use of their strongest signal.

I wonder if The Planet moving a bit more towards classic rock will help X98.5. Wouldn’t expect a huge bump but would be nice to see X move a little higher. That said I’m just glad they still exist after all these years.

Honestly the only listenable station in this market for me.

Instead of Buck Country, I wonder why Audacy does not want to return to the Magic format. There still remains a major AC void in the Upstate. Didn't Magic generate decent ratings and demographics all those years on 98.9? I understand they were forced to sell 106.3, but if they were changing formats for WROQ, then why not return to Magic? And move Hawk and Tom to a more age appropriate format. But I guess they wanted more to weaken iHeart on 92.5 and 100.5.

Get Ready For This One .. 😛
Brace Yourself because I'm off to a Rant Here

Ever since a long time ago when Odyssey got rid of Charlie/Chuck FM, I think they've been very skeptical about running that format again , it's been pretty much avoided by them ever since, Magic was like their last straw that they didn't have to desperately try to break a camel's back, or eagerly put Magic into a disappearing act (Magic Trick - Gone Wrong) with the nail in the coffin (Epic Fail) that nobody asked for, and in favor on WYRD on FM Being More WEIRD Using a WORD that they can't Keep Their Tone to a Minimum Whisper. I wouldn't be surprised if 98.9 became "Boisterous FM - Loud Radio Not Just For Boys" which by the way, Nod' to when 104.9 kept pushing people to Man Up (as if directed by a Drill Sargeant). Apparently its just become like WORD had purposely left over their used scraps, planted seeds on the former AM Signal Lair that WORD-AM had vacated. Let Me Rephrase That .. More like they "Happily Abandoned" 1330/950 in favor of moving to FM on 98.9 .. Not Much action Since Displacing Magic was like paying the Untrained Rabbit to Fall Into A Hat (or Black Hole in Deep Space). Displacing Their Magic, Magically, And Majestically, Like Someone Waved A Magic Wond - Then, Just like Magic - Those WORD AM Seeds have Sprouted and Grown into become a near Perfect Clone of the previous There's No-Place-Like-Home-Grown-Up-WORD station (Now as "Upstate RED") ... 🤣 Because "it is what it is" While Also Claiming "It's A Great Day in South Carolina" probably been a long time since that day was so great until (24 Hours Without Coffee Maybe) until One Random Day in Late March of 2023, WORD Station & Staff Moved From FM to FM, Yes Already on 106.3, but shifted to 98.9 because "AHH" Someone had discovered the new Signal Also Reaches 50 Miles *Plus* 50 MORE Miles On Top of That! Like WOW Best Endless News Story Ever - Over 100 Miles of Coverage (Measured in Inches) Going In All Directions, Like, Which Direction is the most important, Today? ... Surely Not the One They Pored Favors For, Just "No Comprende, Amigo." .But, Wow, So Much Overlap in their Home Market! (Now With Upstate RED and their Many Talking Heads / Endless News is like Sending 1330/950 back to the Early 2000s). After all this time, For Just Once in a Lifetime, They Could've Left WORD Alone, Because 'It Is What it is" Even Still, Literally "Same As It Ever Was." Just Like It Was,
As it Was, And Look There it Is Again! 1330/950."
It's Almost Like, She Blinded Me With Science...
Always Remember to "Keep, Carry & Calm On!" -Thx 😂

On a Separate Side-Noted Topic, I notice that the 95.1 Translator in Clemson SC has become a Simulcast of WHRZ-LP / His Radio Z, which is on 102.1 in Greenville, and on 104.1 in Spartanburg, plus 91.1 in Charleston, At least According to their website.

I miss Chuck. When I first moved to the upstate, it was the only only station I listened to. The mix was incredible! Whitney Houston, followed by some Journey...and then Johnny Cash, "I walk the line." The station really lived up to the slogan, "we play anything." You never quite knew what you were going to hear.
