Hey Skydog…what’s up my brother? Most of the respondents here are not answering the question. Is “Classic Rock” dead in L.A.? Define “Classic Rock”…Now we’ve opened up Pandora’s Box because there’s likely as many definitions as there are Consultants and Program Directors. Classic Rocks biggest challenge is that those who are purists, have a broader vision and appetite… are in their Sixties. So Great Classic Rock (not generic Classic Rock) has only so much life left on the dial. It’s kind of like Swing or Big Band. Great formats in their day and then the demographic died. Sure The Doors, Zep, Cream and Floyd, etc. get a nod and a wink but who’s playing Wishbone Ash, Trapeze, Cactus, Lou Reed Live, Free, Rory Gallagher, Freddie King, Camel, Dixie Dreggs, Elf, Hookfoot, Caravan, Strawbs, If, Leslie West, Quicksilver, Poco…well you get the idea. It’s a random snapshot. A sampling. My list might seem a bit esoteric so I invite you to mull over yours. But back in the day…much of my list was dangerous and thus very enticing. Make your own dance card. The list of great “Classic Rock” Bands is hundreds of artists deep but these bands have not been passed from one generation to the next. In other words our kids don’t know them. So there’s no cume to sustain them. The cume that does exist becomes smaller with each tick of the atomic clock. The current play list of generic boiler plate “Classic Rock” is a dish served cold.
