Is Comcast ignoring NBC Primetime?

This is not surprising. When you are a corporation and have stockholders, you need to "accentuate the positive," if you'll pardon the cliche. General Motors is bragging about the Chevy Malibu and a couple of their other cars that are actually selling some units. They're not talking too much about their huge Suburbans and Tahoes anymore.

NBC prime-time is currently a negative.

This is misleading. Just because a network CAN reach 100% of US TV households doesn't mean that it actually does. I don't have the precise figures in front of me, but the percentage of the available audience that actually tunes into NBC at least once a week is probably something like 65%-70%. That's still an impressive figure, but it's not exactly 100%.

The irony of that slide is that it is Comcast/NBC is indirectly casting its own cable networks in a negative light -- notice that USA, Bravo, and SyFy are among the 9 networks shown on the right -- yet, there is a second slide (picture) shown in which they sing the praises of those networks and the others in the portfolio.

They could have easily substituted three other non-Comcast/NBC cable networks and made that slide work, without giving off the perception that they were talking out of both sides of their mouth.
 
They didn't buy NBC/U to fix prime time. They bought it to monetize properties, including NBC's online and cable properties. The rest, including the network, theme parks and other components -- they would well sell off. The future is in online distribution and cable diversity, not in an archaeic TV network that burns through cash at a loss. Not that it won't stay (or try) to with NBC TV, but the property is worth more than the bottom line. The cable spetrum and online has a lot more growth potential.

It may take a few very short years, but this buy will evoke major changes sooner than later. Prime time is the least of the focus. Comcast has many more irons in the fire.
 
Guess this means Comcast will chop away more stations to make way for more crap shopping stations and knocking out C-Span altogether for MASN 3, 4, 5...20.

It's funny that NBC says that their late night programming is still doing well. The Tonight Show and Late Night franchises are at their lowest ratings ever right now!

Around here at least, Time Warner customers don't have it. My understanding is that Time Warner was told they had to but they're still appealing.
 
For those not following the story, MASN is having a hard time trying to get cleared in the state of North Carolina, which is vchimpanzee's neck of the woods.
