Is Country getting bigger around here

Comcast just added GAC and CMT to their digital package, they told me their subscribers demanded more Country. So what they did was put CMT and GAC right after VH1-Country, all in a row. Is this because there are no good Rock outlets in the area and the listener is turning Country. We all know most normal people are sick and tired of all this urban product on the radio dial, so they are changing their listening habits. Will XTU go through the roof, and is there a full time Rock cable channel that can be added, as an alternative to the 6 urban music channels, I do not know of any, if there is let me know and I can contact Comcast.

A comment I hear frequently is that Classic Rock/Hits fans also tend to have Country as their second choice. This seems logical given the sound of today's country. Three country channels seems about right, as country fans are not as fragmentised as Rock and Urban listeners.

I do not know of any additional Rock channels taht Music Choice could add, but I must admit XM has several good channels. I don't subscribe to it yet, but have heard it at a pub and the channels sound great.

I don't think so...I don't think that Nirvana fans are trading in their SUV's for pick up trucks...if there is an upward trend in Country listening...I think it may be by default. I listen to Smooth Jazz by default because I can't hear a lot of the music I want to hear on the radio.

I know that a lot of people are now relying on IPods, Internet, or Satellite Radio because of the additional urban formats.

Will XTU go through the roof?

I doubt it. If that were the case I think we would have seen that trend already...the additional urban formats have plagued us for about a year now and I don't see a huge change in XTU's numbers because of it.

Country usually takes from AC formats, but with some of the more rock-based acts like Big & Rich making it big, I could see XTU stealing a couple of MGK's listeners as well. It's the older rock fans that will listen to Country though, not the YSP/Y100 contingent. The format is on the upswing nationally in the past couple years with a new crop of artists and more crossovers (Keith Urban, Tim Mcgraw).

XTU won't be going "through the roof" anytime soon, but it's no surprise that they're moving up a little.

As for Rock video channels, Fuse and VH1 Classic play a lot of rock, and there are a ton of Rock videos available on Music Choice On Demand.

Fuse and VH1 Classic (both availible on DirecTV) play a lot of rock.

Thanks for all the great info, I have seen VH1-Classic and they seem to be adding more urban product this past year. When they first launched, they were mainly Rock, MTV-80's Pop, Classic Rock and Metal. I never heard of Fuse, does anyone any info on it?? As for MTV-H/MTV2/MTV-S/VH1-S and MTV-J, they are mostly urban, video wise. I tried both Satellite services and was not impressed that much, XM does not offer a Metal Channel, Sirius does. Both services Country Classic and Oldies channels are poor, and all that general chatter between songs is a turn off. MC is not much different when it comes to music, without the talk, it comes with the Digital Package and does have facts and images about the artists, which XM and Sirius do not. Thanks again.
