Is country rock the next hot format?

I know country rock is heard on radio stations such as Billings & Terre Haute, plus Clear Channel has that format on a HD2 channel in Austin. I s thatI don't know how the ratings for these two stations are. Are there going to be format flips to a country/rock format within the bigger markets such as those 2 soon? Is sirius or XM going to have plans for a country/rock channels in the near future? Tell us what you think.

If CC has its hand in it,then it's a BIG NEGATORY good buddy!

No Dixie Chicks,no Marshall Tucker,Lynyrd Skynyrd,CowboyTroy or Kentucky Headhunters?(or any act that Clear Chump-nel deems unfit)...then it AIN'T NO COUNTRY ROCK BUBBA!

CC destroyed great stations and formats that were handed to them in good shape.

Clueless Clowns!

It's a great idea for a format but I don't see most mainstream broadcasting companies risking it because it's not considered "mainstream" to them.

majicjim..

CC, as much as you would like to say different, does not dictate what is played on any of the formats. If you have worked for CC, and were dictated what to play, then it must have been obvious someone needed some help, otherwise, you are left alone. Whether the Dixie Chicks, or any other band/artist, there is no black list.
Either you've never worked for CC, or have been miss informed. If "Country-Rock"
is a viable format (obviously not in the smaller markets) then I am sure it would be looked at just like any other possibility. The bottom line would be having a P.D. who could pull it off.

oh, and one more thing... I program a CC country. We play The Chicks, Van Zant,
Marshall Tucker, and an occasional Skynyrd.. and we are the #1 country in the market. Argue if you want. Facts are Facts. yes, Cowboy Troy too.

Then come to New Orleans and find out how not to do it.... Mixing ZZ top with Alan Jackson and having a former Alternative Rock morning show become your morning show.. The PD is apparently not too hip to country and only recently has some of the playlist become better.

Where I'm at in the south (Louisiana) before Clear Channel and the rest became household names in the 90s, We had country stations that mixed in southern rock from groups like Marshall tucker, Lynyrd Skynyrd, as well as Bob Seger and John Cougar Mellancamp with the young country of the late 80s and it did pretty well.

But Cowboy Troy is still pretty far out there for country fans in the south and never hear from him anymore.

Thunder Country 96.9 tried mixing in rock in the early 90s in Charlotte, N. C., and so did Cruisin' Country in Myrtle Beach, S. C., which had two competitors and finally went hip-hop.

WSDM in the Terre Haute, IN market is trying "country rock" as Crock 92.7. They got 6's as an ABC Oldies Radio affiliate. They have lost over half their audience in the year since the flip.

I'm not sure that it demonstrates that the format is unworkable: the same company runs a 50kw AC outlet that rates lower than two or three rimshots.

Takes time and dedication to grow this format. It's workable but requires someone willing to understand it and take the chance, and a company that understands long term growth over instant numbers.
