Is D Day Coming for Styles?

"D-Day"?

Is Styles going to sign on a hip-hop station in Germany?

Now that would be interesting...

Why it was a Beasley Story?

I hate just links, what was the crux of the Story?

Inside Radio morning edition today:

All eyes on L.A. - as Styles is supposed to close on KDAY/KDAI for $120 million. And if Styles Media - fortified by its new investors - can't close on July 31 Spanish Broadcasting System apparently gets to pocket the full $20 million now on deposit. That's unless they work out yet another extension.

I am surprised that Inside radio did not mention that Russ Oasis brings the Potamkin money into Styles, and that is enough to buy 93.5 about 50 times over.

Inside Radio is notorious for printing speculation. R&R and All Access have a strong reputation for actually following up on stories. And, Don Barrett, does as well with regard to anything L.A. Basically they reported what everyone has known since the extension was filed on 4/1.

Styles/Oasis

Could it be they realized what they bought into, as they are not inexperienced Broadcasters & Financial Money Men, and decided that Class 'A's, are not their cup of Tea, at least in Southern California? My brand new Potamkin Subaru Dealership went out of Business within Months of their "Grand Opening".

Potamkin has been in an out of radio several times with Oasis, and Russ, as The Ad Team, was thier agency going back to about 1980. Russ loves turnarounds.

As far as turnarounds, I'm sure you thrive on those as well? And I was amazed who he is, and what he has owned. WMXJ for example, wow!. How was he as an Announcer?

And the Potamkin's with their Planet Automotive group is Solid as a Rock. They could afford a Full Market Stick anywhere. Do you realize for the going price of one Class C in Los Angeles, an Investor could Purchase all the Hotels in Downtown Las Vegas?

There are no Class C's in L.A. - there are Class B's on Mt. Wilson. Right now, I would estimate "stick" value for a Class B on Mt. Wilson to be north of $400 million.

Oh, I always thought a Station like KNJO was a Class A, a Station like KOLA was a Class B, and a Station like KPFK was a Class C. Oh well, thanks!

That is such a crock of poppycock!

No Poppycock

Do you realize for the going price of one Class C in Los Angeles, an Investor could Purchase all the Hotels in Downtown Las Vegas?

> That is such a crock of poppycock!<

Yes it is, as I just learned there are no Class C's in L.A., my Mistake!

Or, was it about buying ALL the Casinos in "Downtown" Las Vegas?. Barrick Gaming which only 18 Months ago bought 40% of the Downtown Casinos and 35 Acres of land, only paid 83 Million, and that included the Plaza, the Las Vegas Club, the Western, and the Gold Spike. They just were forced to sell to their "Holding" Company for $180 Million, and get out of Downtown. Are you saying that RadioResearchers figure of 400 Million PLUS couldn't pay for the rest of Downtown, the Golden Nugget, the Lady Luck, the Golden Gate, the El Cortez, the California Hotel, Binions, Mainstreet Station, Fitzgeralds, Four Queens, and the Freemont. It can, let's leave out the Golden Nugget though. This just demonstrates "the Power of Radio", and how Radio Properties are priced outrageously!

The only other possibility in my Post, is that you are doubting the power of Alan & Robert Potamkin, with Russ Oasis too?

Class A is the same across the country. Class B and Class C stations are in different parts of the country.

A station like KPFK went on the air before the current classes were established and, so long as it stays at the same transmitter location, is "grandfathered" at a power level higher than would be permitted if it were built new today.

There was a thread about this on the Coast to Coast board within the past few weeks, which included this link to a list of FM stations nationwide that are so grandfathered, along with what their power would be if the rules applied to their current operation.

Take a look at how many of the Los Angeles FMs would be peashooters if it weren't for their grandfathered status (KCBS-FM/"Jack", for example, would be under 1000 watts) ...

Re: No Class C's

Thanks for the link KM. Of course, one of my first questions when I moved to South Florida was, "Where are the Mountains where they put the FM Transmitters?".

Inside Radio has been ahead of everyone on the ABC Radio possible sale story and reported the settlement in the SBS/Emmis case this morning before any other site. You were saying?

OASIS & POTAMKIN OUT OF THE DEAL!

All Access reported at 5:00pm today that according to FCC filings, the transaction from SBS to Styles did not close and the applications for transfer to the entity that included Oasis & Potamkin Bros. were dismissed last week. Styles has made other arrangements to close this transaction.

As Chris Carmichael would say on the San Diego board:

Stay tuned.
