Well, it seems most people are happy with the Radio Scene here, Also i believe that most of the Radio Companies here are maybe afraid to step out of the Box and maybe try some of these formats that didn't work well before.
Not only that but you when you have stations like KOSI 101.1 and KYGO 98.5 who continue to not only remain at or near the top of the ratings time after time, but also continue to WRITE THE BOOK on how a station in their respective genres should be run, it's kinda hard to expect such radical change.
Speaking of radical changes and formats that have proven NOT to work and/or have been tweaked to avoid falling to the bottom
PLEASE NO MORE KISS'S or BEAT's...... :
AMEN. (Looking at KS-107.5 and Party 95.7 in particular).
I can remember back in the 80s when 95.7 & 107.5 were two of the
TOP stations in Denver. In fact, they were practically neck-and-neck in the ratings and practically WROTE THE BOOK on how to be a respectible CHR. And BOTH were
VERY popular with listeners. Mind you, I was in
HIGH SCHOOL when all this was going on.
Then things changed, and before long, things began slipping. Now look at those stations. 107.5 is struggling to maintain some sense of respectibility and relevance while 95.7 is barely able to keep its head above water (And is in danger of drowning).
Also it would depend on the Frequency and signal,
for instance, I believe a good programmed Rythmn & Blues Classic Beats & Todays Fresh new Rythmn...would work...but it would have to be on a good Frequency....AKA 107.1 would be a terrible place...given it's signal which is too far east past DIA EVEN.
An FM SPORTS Possibly, would be something new, Look as Dallas's KESN 103.3 for example..
As would an FM Talker that
doesn't broadcast Air America (Not that they could anyway), but yet would politically appeal to the
HUGE young Liberal California-transplanted audience in Denver. That's where I think 107.1 should go IMO.
A Dance/POP/Rythmn Mix would be good if it were done right....Not like the ol dance 102.1...which was on a poor Frequency and didn't have any direction.
NO WAY. No form of Dance music hasn't worked on the one decent city grade signal that people are used to hearing such music on (95.7) and Pop music is struggling at best on the other decent city grade signal that people are used to hearing such music on (107.5). What makes you think that a Dance/Pop station would work on 107.1 (Or sister station 101.5 for that matter)??
and lastly Free up some of the Improssned Frequencies, whose formats are in the Toilet....Such as 92.1 & 99.5 and maybe even Mix 100. Just my thoughts....
I wouldn't say that 100.3 needs a new format, but I would say that Mix definately needs to be blown up like a certain baseball team in town does though.
As for 92.5 I'd say
GET IT OUT OF ROBOT MODE and Country just might have a chance. Otherwise, it could find itself either becoming the newest home of Denver's latest incarnation of a Dance/Pop station or a non-NPR FM Talker of some kind.
I really don't think it will ever happen here, there Radio scene is pretty stale, and it seems the Radio Broadcasters are fine with the way it is.
You think Denver radio is stale, you should see the
TV side. I mean talk about
[/u][/i]BO-RING[/i][/u].
Anyone wanting to set up a personal website covering the local TV news scene here could expand it to cover the whole state and
still not get much news. I know because I tried (Look up
http://colotvnews.terrashare.com/ on the Wayback Machine and you'll see what I mean).
The last major story I heard from the TV side was Jeremy Hubbard, now supposedly formerly of FOX O&O KDVR 31 leaving for Chicago to work at ABC's bureau there. And that was
just this month.
It was also the first major development of any kind that I can think of (At least) since KWGN started an 11:00 AM newscast some several months ago.
Or at the very least since John Romero joined KDVR a few months back (I'm assuming in preparation for Jeremy's departure).
Just my $.02 worth & opinion
Cheers
