From Roby Brock's Talk Business Blog, Grant Merril reported Thursday...

"Rumors are running rampant throughout central Arkansas that the left-leaning Air America Network will soon find an affiliate on the Little Rock radio airwaves. Air America’s most prominent on-air personality is comedian and political pundit Al Franken.

A call to the Illinois based Nova-M Radio confirms that they are in the process of coming to the capitol city, however the spokesperson would not confirm as to what frequency.

All speculation right now points to KDXE 1380 AM, the area’s ESPN affiliate. The station’s morning show anchored by Today’s THV sports personality Wess Moore was dismissed a few weeks back, and sources close to the station indicate changes are afoot.

Nova M, a company started by Air America founders Sheldon and Anita Drobny is apparently obtaining network affiliates by purchasing or leasing radio stations across the nation. According to a recent article from the Society of Professional Journalists, the couple hopes to control between twenty and twenty five stations in the coming year.

KDXE-AM is currently owned by the Austin, Texas-based Simmons Media Group which owns a number of sports stations across the country including KSUD 730 AM in West Memphis. Calls to the corporate headquarters were not returned."

Air American replaced Music of Your Life in Memphis and lost about 60% of the audience in just two books.

How long can a network survive if it has to pay the affilites to carry it?

Or buy or lease the stations?

AAR's backer's are letting political emotions get the better of their business sense...but then, it's their money...for a little while, anyway.

First, I've been listening to Randi Rhodes over the Internet since she was a local down in West Palm Beach. Her show is like Jim Rome's: it's an acquired taste, but after a while, you'll grow to love it.

If Air America in Little Rock comes true, I'll be so jealous of you guys. Hope it works out.
______________
"...and the countdown continues until the neanderthals that govern college football do something about their pathetic postseason."--Tim Brando, Sporting News Radio

Frankly, I am saddened by this. The closest ESPN radio signal is 96.3 out of Mena, and the signal stops at Benton. Yes, I know there's an internet, but when I'm driving, I obviously can't listen. If ESPN leaves 1380, I hope another station can pick it up (and not 92.7). Perhaps Citadel will decide they no longer need four or five stations simulcasting KARN, and they could pick it up.

Is ESPN dropping sports to take flight? Answer: YES

It's official. They are switching Monday, and they will keep the Travs.
