Because Major League Baseball has taken a back seat to College and Pro football. Aside from the six major cities that FOX broadcasts games from, the rest of the country could care less.
Heck, even the Yankees really don't care. I was channel surfing saturday, when Derek Jeter came to the plate, bases loaded. Some obscure stat was posted about him not hitting a grand slam in 135 at bats with bases loaded. So he corks one to the deepest part of left center, pretty much sealing the Cubs doom...(well, life actually takes care of that, but I digress) So Jeter trots around the bases, gets a polite greeting from the three other base runners, and a few handshakes in the dugout..and thats that.
Now, look, I appreciate the fact that these guys don't break into spasmodic seizures after a big play, like NFL players do, but I've seen more emotion on the PGA tour than I have in baseball dugouts the past few seasons.
It seems to be another day at the office for these multi millionaires, and they appear to be going through the motions. Yes, the fans in attendance were pretty jacked, but again...the rest of the country really could care less about MLB.
Tee it up. Lets play football.
