Is everyone gone???

Did Citadel show all the jocks the door after DIVA and KKND flipped? The DIVA website is under construction for the new MIX 92.3. And the KKND website is still up but with all the personalities taken off of it.

I'm wondering if Citadel is gonna try these stations jockless. Scott Shannon keeps hinting at "more music, less DJ yak". That'll last about three months or less, give or take huh......??

funny you should ask sam.....................of course everyone got the axe!!!!! cant you tell on the air........lol ::)
sounds to me they are going to go jockless on these stations. which i will give them about a month and a half before no one will listen to these 'becoming stagnant' stations anymore.

funny thing is, this scott shannon fella seems to be taking over the new olreans airwaves via citadel! ???

Wonder why she's even gone from the Lafayette signal? Apparently Jason Ginty's gonna be by himself.

Citadel really is cleaning house!

I heard that EVERYONE on KKND has been let go, including the morning guy. Don't know if the new PD is still in place, though.

Over at the new Mix they're jockless and they let a few people go over the holidays. Don't know if that includes the PD Johnny McQueen but I did hear rumors of him taking a new job inTexas...perhaps he sees the writing on the wall!
Don't know how they could bring back any of those people...best to start a new station with fresh staff I think. Besides I don't see where any of them were worth keeping anyway!

nah they probably let him stay since it's STILL country music and its STILL pitched up to 'diva' speed !............ ;D

true...........what a bunch that was. imo......i would work for mcqueen before i would work for those at entercom. neil wilson might have been the only one i would listen to if i listened on a regular basis. and diva was a bad moniker anyways but a new staff would be a better solution than working with the same.
on kknd i like vydra but she didnt like 'kuntry' music as she called it and poor thing didnt fit it but you do what you need to do to earn money............ :-\
and im sure the part timers are still there.....

they should have gone back to 106.7 THE GATOR.........since many might remember that im sure
yeah its been done before but if they were gonna stick to country at least give it a name thats been there before and people would know.
talk around town would be: hey the gator is back! would it do better than wnoe?? probably not but it would be more relateable.

You guys crack me up! You bitch and moan that nothing changes in New Orleans and then when it does you bitch and moan that it has!! The End came to an end, deal with it. I'm sorry if someone in that building turned you down for a job in the past or you were let go as part of the changes, but you were. The reason you can't find a gig is because of this bitterness. It shows in your cover letters. It shows on your airchecks. And, if you get an interview, too many of you "let it fly" to someone who you are trying to impress enough to give you a job. Think about this as you unpack boxes overnight at Wal-Mart.

Of course they blew out the staffs. When talent doesn't believe in the product and/or doesn't match what is needed, changes are made. Been in this position several times. If they were under contract, Citadel is taking care of them and if they're good they'll find jobs again.

For a city that claims they're keeping their chin up through rebuilding you sure have a lot of hate and venom to spit at people. Just Keep it classy, N.O.!!

true.....nothing ever changes in new orleans unless its going to change for the worse......or becomes just as bad as what the previous product was. usually dont take long here in new orleans either.............
IMO......nothing will ever change until many different things happen. and one of them is that the corporations need to promote qualified and talented locals FAMILIAR WITH THEIR MARKET, FORMAT AND STATION HERITAGE to program them. tap into some of the talent you have locally! then worry about getting that super cool jock from mesa, arizona to do afternoon drive.
unfortunately we know it will never happen anymore so we just sit back and let them force feed us this schmootz they call entertainment and variety. AND im not saying a local would be 100 percent better but its been proven here in new orleans. they must know what they're doing to some extent.

i agree. everyone is talented. some more than others but i wish all of them luck!

we are rebuilding our homes our lives etc. and while we are at it, why not our radio choices?? to me changes are fine but one should know something about the market he/she is programming/about to program for before they dive in and get too far in over their head.

brian

oh and for the record.....im not sore at anyone. just voicing my opinion of this less than par radio market this city seems to harbor and the programming many of our residents no longer enjoy.

Express away! What you said had thought to it. It wasn't the same mindless "I can't get hired, everyone sucks" rage that seems to troll these boards for every state and city.

The idea that one needs to be local to program a radio station is not true. Very few of the top programmers and talent anywhere are from the market they are in. The problem your city faces is after the storm a lot of talent didn't go back to work for their stations. For almost two years the companies had to hire whoever wanted to come, or in CC's case track 24/7. Factor that with about 6-months of no money coming in after the storms, people still under contract getting paid even though they didn't come back to work, and you have the current situation. A lot of stations are still off in billing from their numbers before the storms and don't have the cash flow to hire the people they want to. You can say CC has a lot of money as a company, but what they pay talent on the local level comes from local budget.

It's not fair but it's the reality of the situation.

As for change for the worse...who says the changes are for the worse? You said something telling...FAMILIAR WITH THEIR MARKET, FORMAT AND STATION HERITAGE...that's part of the problem. In the history in radio, once a station changes format and goes for a period of time as something else, a return to what was never works because it's not the same. Time passed, the talent moved on and listeners did too. What we as listeners want is the station back as it was, but if we get it we realize it was 3, 4, 5 years ago and we were at a different point in our lives then, and we aren't there anymore. It's a nice idea, but so was the all music morning idea that burned through radio 10 years ago because that's what was wanted, right? In both cases, it's been proven wrong time and again. Maybe there isn't something that serves you on N.O. radio right now. As unfortunate as that is, know that a company in the area is making some changes that may wake some of the others up from their sleep.

No one put me anywhere. If you view what I've said as being on a soapbox, then you don't get my intent.

I'm just a humble programmer (yes, we exist) who went through a lot to get to where I am. I don't defend the world of radio as it is. I think we'd be better off with less stations and less owners. Even if it meant I was out of a job. But that will never happen because of ad revenue. You need competition to drive your price up. The more you have, the more those on top can charge per spot.

Back to my intent...there are a lot of myths about radio that have never been true, people from an area programming the local stations thus making them a success being one of them. That's all I was pointing out. I never knew pointing out facts made one a know-it-all or put them on a mountain. I hate heights and I don't want to be there. Please allow me to climb down in your eyes.

I feel there are a lot of intelligent radio people on these boards. I troll to hopefully learn some things, which I do. I post to share information that I've learned.

Well, the only person that can be verified as still there on the air is Jim Hanzo, as he is still doing news and traffic on 106.1. If they could dump Shannon, and spin oldies locally, and play plenty NOLA oldies...wait who would do that today??

The immediate problem would be that they probably wouldn't have an oldies library to build on with live, local talent.

Maybe they could get a start-up library from another failed oldies station in their cluster, but I doubt they would want to go thru all that trouble, much less pay a live local staff that could probably get them up into the 5-8 point competitive rating level if done correctly.

With Scott Shannon and Jim Hanzo, they might split TIX-FM's usual 2.3 and each end up with a 1.1 at most. If that's the pitiful level of competitiveness and potential revenue Citadel wants from this station, they will surely their wish.

You get what you pay for.

Nice thought though. :)
