Listen to John Dickerson's Slate podcast to hear how Gerry Ford, with some help from Reagan, got Carter elected.

I don't know anyone in the news media who really thought Jimmy Carter knew what he was doing in 1980.
"Like many of them, he was an advertising man whose product was Reagan. It still is."
Actually, he was a TV producer ("The Mike Douglas Show") and then a political consultant. He did not work in advertising.
If anyone is interested in a perspective from across the puddle, Fox news is available in the UK, via the popular 'Sky TV' platform. Most people with any remote interest in international affairs are at least aware of the channel, and it doesn't give a very good impression of Republicans. The UK perception of Republicans is still all about 'God, guns and (anti) gay' even though that is probably a good decade out of date and I think that Fox News is at least partially to blame for that. In fact a significant minority of UK Conservatives backed Obama (the so called 'ObamaCons').
I'm certainly watching closely to see who the Republicans field in 2016.
Murdoch owns both. From what I've seen watching online, Sky is not as incendiary as Fox - even more CNN-like in presentation but of course with a point of view. .
I thought Sky was the functional equivalent to DirecTV or Dish, not just a news network / cable channel. Or are you referring to "Sky News" specifically... one of the multiple Sky channels?
The UK perception of Republicans is still all about 'God, guns and (anti) gay'...
Fox News' demographics are up there and so are MSNBC's. You'd think the way leftists talk, that if it wasn't for Fox News, the Democrats would have one-party-rule and all would be Utopia.
Although, since apparently we're not even having an election, but a coronation "what difference does it make

I fondly & affectionately call Republicans & the Tea Party "Right Wing World"
Attribution noted however I see no reason not to adopt it on Social Media (Been working on a hashtag too)Actually the phrase comes from Stephanie Miller.
I fondly & affectionately call Republicans & the Tea Party "Right Wing World" & one of the reasons why I call the political right that is because I'm not convinced IT knows what it stands for & believes in anymore. As such, HOW can IT expect anyone else (Let alone Fox News) to ??
At least we political lefties KNOW what WE stand for & believe in
Cheers
