Is Fresh Going Back to the 80's??

Couldn't help but notice a whole bunch of 80's stuff today on Fresh.. I thought they tried this once as Star and that didn't work so they changed to Fresh?

Men at Work... Belinda Carlisle... Wham... Sounds like a Beastly Broadcasting move, if at first it failed once, try, try some more. I wonder what consultant they got this time around that convinced them this was the way to go??

It's too bad too! I actually was liking what Fresh was doing, now I can't stomach hearing the same old 80's stuff again. GOD HELP ME!!

You are right Slurpee, it sounds like FRESH has reverted back to "80s and more". Not all-80s but the 80s based format in the final months of STAR.

Here are just some of the 80s songs they played today: Small Town,Girls Just Want To Have Fun, Down Under, Danger Zone, Open Arms, I Get Weak, Addicted To Love, Sister Christian, Every Breath You Take, 1999, Who Can It Be Now, Livin' On A Prayer, Jessie's Girl, Missing You.....All of those songs were played to death when they were STAR.

FRESH is also playing more crispy 90s titles like
Only Wanna Be With You, Come To My Window, and All I Wanna Do.

For my tastes the gold they are playing is some of the most played out, oversaturated music ever recorded. The opposite of fresh, it's stale.

As much as I don't like it personally, it might be a good move for them. I say that because STAR at their worst had better ratings than FRESH ever has. It wasn't working for them at all. They played fairly similar music to MIX yet took literally no audience away from them. Like someone said on this board, it's what goes on between the songs...MIX sounds local and in tune with Vegas while FRESH sounds more generic...like some random Hot AC you happen to hear on a road trip driving through some medium market. To be fair, maybe it takes some time to develop that local flavor. In the meantime they might as well play a more vanilla music mix to match the overall feel of the station. In fact they might as well go back to being "80s and more" STAR 102.7...with fairly little effort they could get mediocre (but not bad) and consistent ratings for years to come.

I would defintly like to see it happen. Star was my fav station in Vegas. However, I havent been back to Vegas since '04, and will defintly miss it when I get back there spring of '09.

As reported on the home page of Radio-Info, revenue at Beasley LV is down 15% for the year compared to a 5% decline for Las Vegas radio overall. The Beasley corporate report specifically mentioned softness at Fresh and Coyote. I could be wrong but my guess is the decision to add a bunch of 80s music on FRESH came down from corporate (as opposed to locally) as an attempt to address this situation. I just wonder if the 80s is turning off their exisiting cume ( the station did show a little momentum in March) while being too current for the type of retro fans who listened back in the heyday of STAR?
