IS GLEN BURNS' WEATHER PREDICTING COMPUTER BROKEN?

Glen keeps predicting widespread rain almost every afternoon, but it never shows up. I think his
weather predicting computer is off kilter. Would somebody please tell him his rain predicting
machine is off the mark and may need to be rebooted.

It isn't Glenn. The National Weather Service, Accu Weather, & others predicted rain chances of as much as 70 per cent over the past several days in the area. There were hit and miss thunderstorms but for many of us across the state, nada. When the percentages dropped to 30 per cent or lower, some of us who hadn't seen rain for weeks, were blessed with downpours. It is an educated guessing game at best. Widespread rain is highly unlikely during a Georgia summer. We reserve those dreary days for winter.

He actually shows some kind of LOOKING FORWARD weather model. I don't think they
get that from the NWS, I think that comes from the WSB weather computers.

The same could be said about two locally produced newscast stations. However, it is computers and weather isn't that predictable in the summer especially in the South. Pop up thunderstorms can occur anywhere due to the daytime heating, high humidity, and random disturbances that form from old outflow boundaries, dying frontal boundaries, or tropical waves coming from the Gulf or Atlantic.

Now, we all know about pop up thunderstorms. BUT, when Glen shows a map and it is
green from the Alabama line to South Carolina at 2PM tomorrow and "we should get a
good soaking" who is to blame the next day when nothing happens? Either Glen is
wrong or the computer is OVER PREDICTING.

Heck, you might want to stream the web forecasts for the WRBL & WTVM out of Columbus because they do the same thing on daily basis. All of them overpredict the forecast.

Could be..... I've just noticed that Glen's predicted forcast is often OFF. It seems
the other WSB guys are not as off as he is.

That just appears to be some kind of fluff piece about weather, Glen, WSB. Didn't see anything
in it about how accurate his predictions were.

It doesn't just speak about Glenn Burns and WSB-TV. It also talks about ABC 33/40 in Birmingham's chief meteorologist James Spann as well. Gregg75, you might not agree with the piece, but it does point out some interesting yet true things about weather forecasting. So it's not fluff at all.

Yeah but I don't think my opinions matter any more or less than anyone else's on this board. They could have quoted anyone.

We're all here speaking our minds. Just because some of those words end up on a newspaper website should not matter.

I thought my own words were perhaps more harsh and dismissive than I actually feel about Burns. Would have been more fair had I known it would eventually end up in a mainstream article. Oh well.

That New York Times article mentions this board and nightmanager. That alone makes it much more than just a "fluff piece."

Well I see nothing even slightly newsworthy in the article. It seems more like day in the
life of a weatherman..........if that's news to you......go for it.
