Is Greater Media the winner here?

With the demise of WODS (as oldies) and WFNX, could one argue this is a good summer for GM (WBOS-while not like FNX too much, I still think the Terrestrial audience migrates here) and WROR (Even more definite migration of the pre AMP WODS listeners).

Is CC the loser? Overpaying for a weak 101.7 signal and AMP 103.3 taking some audience from 107.9 and to a lesser extent 94.5?

Clear Channel is always the loser. They have the worst stations on the dial. Anybody who knows radio hates clear channel and for good reason.

Let them rot.

I think that Clear Channel programs well, but they just get lazy because they are #1. As far as GM, yes, they won the Oldies war.

That's not true. It's so "fashionable" to hate on Clear Channel. Yes, they do terrible things. Yes, consolidation has made the industry worse, but that's not CC's fault. For every terrible thing CC does, they have something else that's just as good. For every deserted CC station, I can show you a small owner who's doing the same thing... there are a lot of empty studios out there that don't belong to CC.

As for overpaying, I think that's nonsense too. 14 mil is not a bad price for a Boston signal, even if you're a hater of it's coverage. It's not a Pru signal, but those go for a hell of a lot more than 14 mil.

With 5 FM giants with good signals Greater Media is already in the drivers seat in Boston.

WBOS can gain some tenths of a point from WFNX listeners, I certainly don't see them going to WAAF.

WROR could gain a whole point or more with WODS becoming the AMP. WHBA may shave a little off of WROR.

WHBA could possibly hurt WMJX but not too much.

WKLB is #3 in this town. Who'd a thunk it?

What if WTKK, which is now a mess, gets Howie?

And what exactly would that case prove or do?

Oh yeah, the lower level people would get laid off to pay for the lawyers to defend whatever nebulous "case" you bring against them.

Think people! A corporation isn't just a CEO and a few of his buddies!! Remember that the bulk of the payroll is middle class people just like you. Sales people, on air people, support staff, production staff, engineering, secretaries, web designers, graphics people, promotions departments... remember all those real people???? I think they'd like to keep their jobs.

I'm sorry that some of you are sore that FNX is gone. It does stink, from a personal wanting variety on the radio position. But I also know that "dem's da breaks", and a business, especially a not profitable one, is all a part of the game. Would you expect an independent convenience store that's bleeding their owner dry every month to stay open just because you like their brand of beef jerky?? Restaurants close all the time because they aren't successful. Let's face it, if FNX had the audience and especially the income, we wouldn't be having this conversation. Bottom line is, it wasn't.

As Far as WBOS? By Default
