Is Hot 93.7 That Big Of A Deal?

Some people say they play better hip hop music then Hot 97 in New York City. I believe I read that in the topic on the New York Board about Hot 97.

CBS has done a good job of getting their stations on different online platforms, AOL, Yahoo, etc. They may not value talent but they are branching out to where people listen.

Now maybe CBS Radio should put hip hop on 92.3 and make it simliar to Hot 93.7 if they see they put on a better product then Emmis or Clear Channel does for hip hop.

Love the way they sound! They're current, exciting, got great street credibility, Buck the PD runs a tight ship that's driven by entertainment (duh!) and on the air, it sounds like the staff loves what they're doing. HOWEVER, there's gotta be frown faces walking the hallways today as they took a major hit in the fall book - down over a full share. I'm wondering if that's the nature of the market - it's obviously a function of where the diaries land. CCC took a mini-bath in the last book and now they're back up and RCH skyrocketed, regaining their # 1 slot. But yuh - ZMX is the real deal...

Back 8 years ago, this market was screaming for this format. 93.7 came in to fill the void, and they've not looked back since. I'd say that's a big deal.

Regarding the latest slip in the books, I think it may have to to with the music. Hip-hop is retreating in its popularity. I don't think th mucsic or the format will be going anywhere anytime soon though.

I'm not questioning that Hot 93.7 is popular in Connecticut. What I am amazed is that it reportedly is receiving an unprecedented amount of traffic on its Internet stream, to warrant an honorable mention in the R&R article, out of all the stations.

I think you've got it pegged, KMS. They seem to be very hip hop intensive right now and granted, that's their roots, (I know, those are their roots -whatever) but times change. They made their statement, they drove a competitor out of town, but they still come off as gangstas. Granted, Hartford's got a lot of rough sections of the city but it's got a lot of college kids and rich folks' kids driving around in nice SUV's with the bass cranked up that want to be pseudo gangstas. Maybe they could go a bit more mainstream and broaden their base just a bit without losing cred. Just a thought. Today's New Haven numbers took a startling dip matching the Hartford ratings yesterday. Still great at what they do, tho... I give 'em props.

I love Hot 93.7 ! Now The Best Hip Hop station in America ( My Opinion ). DJ Buck is doing a wonderful job at Hot 93.7 . Providence RI miss DJ Buck ( Former DJ at WWKX Hot 106 and his hometown ).
