Is House "Jumping The Shark" ?

C

Casablanca

The past two episodes of House have be really disappointing.
The plot of a search for new residents is a bust and last night I think House really jumped the shark as well as imitated the plot line of the movie "Flatliners".
House had patient who stuck a metal knife in a wall socket to have another near death experience which the patient told House was beautiful and peaceful. So, House does the same thing and sticks the very same knife in a wall socket and nearly electrocutes himself without any apparent near death experience.
Give me a break. As noted above this was the similar plot line of the Kieffer Sutherland movie "Flatliners" of about ten years ago.

This seems to indicate that House is running out of steam. That would be a shame. They should drop the hunt for new residents plot and go back to the regulars who are still there in sub-plots.

Actually we, the viewer, don't know what House experienced. I think he experienced something he wasn't expecting and that's why he asked about the patient. He wanted to talk to the guy about it. I haven't minded the search for a team episodes. Also business appears to be picking up with two former team members back at the hospital and one now unemployed.

I think the first two episodes have been great...I think everyone knows that Cameron, Foreman and Chase are all coming back to work with House. They couldn't start the season with them all back...they had to work at it. The game of finding a new team has been entertaining and has given way to a few good laughs. Some of the actors playing those would be docs are good too.

As for the copy of flatliners I didn't think that at all...I think that House and his faith are going to be tested like never before this year.

I was disapointed not see House's team too. I miss the antics between them. Seems like the last few years I get into a show and then some of the cast is missing. For example Ghost Whisperer , Close To Home, Bones, etc. By the way I loved Close To Home, was I the only one? I'm not too worried about House just yet. You'll notice they're very much in the opening credits.

That opinion is ENTIRELY YOURS.

I have not been disappointed at all.

I've never really thought about it at first.

But when you think about it, it's silly for House to have new residents, if the original cast is STILL THERE AND ON THE CREDITS!

Not to say it has run out of ideas, it's only been on the air 3 years.

House has become a stand alone success, finding it's audience before American Idol found them.

However, it can be confusing to some because they plan their patients to have their medical problems right when you expect it to happen.

With ER and even Grey's Anatomy that hardly ever happens.

I also think it's best season so far was season 2, when it was much more about solving cases than the personal lives of the characters.

I'm not saying don't go there, but it may not always work on some shows.

It hasn't really jump the shark as much as it swam in the tank for a long time.

I figure when the new season began, the opening credits would be altered or that they would use that 5-sec version, which they used for the episode where Dave Matthews guest-star.

I don't think it has reach that jump the shark status yet. It's still early in the series to call it.

Count me in as a fan of House and as far as I’m concerned, the show is no where near ‘jumping the shark.’ Instead the show is concentrating on what demons drives this guy.

For example we know he wants his original team back, but is too proud to call them, so he goes through the process of trying to find replacements, which so far the only two candidates are the old guy without a medical degree, and the aggressive blonde doctor.

As for House shoving the switchblade into the electrical socket, he was attempting to determine for himself if there is an after-life. At the end of the episode, when he’s standing over a dead patient, he tells him, in typical House-fashion, there is no after life.

Hugh Laurie is an outstanding actor and deserves to win an Emmy for his performance. Now that Gandolfini is no longer on TV with the Sopranos, perhaps Laurie will get that coveted statute. How James Spader managed to pull off a win this year shocked the hell out of me.

I'm a fan too, I even have all of it's DVD's.

It's a good show.

The problem is that it can be, AT TIMES, predictable when patients getting sick when you expect it to happen.

I never saw Flatliners, so I don't know.

But that gives me a thought. What Would Happen is you put Kiefer Sutherland-Jack Bauer on House, and Hugh Laurie-Gregory House on 24.

That would be AWESOME! ;D

Hardly!

I think the show has been great this season! The storyline of replacing his team is fantastic.

You are literally the only person I've seen who's disappointed in this season's shows.

Re: Hardly!

The chemistry between House and his team was outstanding. They made Laurie shine even more. These new try-outs don't stay around long enough to really get into House's brain as the others do.
Also fun to watch Jesse Spencer [Dr. Robert Chase]and Jennifer Morrison [ Dr. Alison Cameron] get it on particularly since in real life a relationship developed between them and they are or soon will be married to each other in real life.
Glad Robert Sean Leonard [Dr. James Wilson] and Lisa Edelstein [Dr. Lisa Cuddy] are part of every script so far this new season.

Still think the knife in the wall socket was pretty close to jumping the shark and if it happened in real life Dr. House's medical license would have been at the very least suspended.

All in all I am still rooting for House, the best show on television !

Jesse Spencer and Jennifer Morrison called off the engagement a few weeks back.

I just hate having to wait another week for a new episode (baseball tonight)

I caught an episode of this show last summer (2006) and after that one episode bought the first season on DVD. Since that time, I have bought seasons two & three and had all the episodes watched (in order) just a couple of days before the new season started. This series is nowhere near "jump the shark"

Until the return of "lost" next year, this is currently my only "must see drama"

I thought I read they got married ... to each other.
