Is Houston ready for ComCast?

I'm Not-I still love that good old reliable Time Warner. Has been providing Houston with cable for the past 30 years. Now the switch is on as the rest of the State of Texas will be getting TWC-and we end up getting America's preferred cabler. Now, those who get Roadrunner (like I do) might think about returning their modems to the nearest TWC office, and MUST buy their own modems if they want their service to continue. I think there are some alternatives to Comcast-like AT&T, with their U-Verse digital cable-TV service. also I think there's Fision-which is only available to viewers in Far West & NW Houston. I believe the only change there is left is everything remains the same-By the end of the year.

I dumped cable and got satellite 10 years ago.

The Comcast slide on The Weather Channel is still not on yet. It still says Time Warner Cable. How long will it take for the transition to be completed? It seems they dropped the ball on this one. Macy's seemed to do a better job transitioning Foley's than Comcast and TWC.

All the menu graphics on the converter box functions still have Time Warner as well. Looks like they're still asleep at the wheel on some things.

In the latest commercials, The astronaut (A TimeWarner Holdover) now appears in those Comcast ads. he appeared in one spot showing off how Comcast works to make everybody is familiarized with this new cable company-while the BBQ went out of control and the ladies & the girls get hosed, and in another spot, he was telling about Comcast while he was eating hot dogs. By the end of this month, everybody will make themselves comfortable trying to get themselves orientated, RoadRunner customers will expect to see the change of internet service at the beginning of july, And in August, Houston's die-hard football fans will get a taste of NFL-TV, a channel TimeWarner wished they have gotten. So for now, everything's all comcastic!

Hey RoadRunner folks - get ready to lose your "@houston.rr.com" e-mail addresses... I don't know the overall plans, but heard there would be a period of "forwarding" - you get your new comcast.net address, and your houston.rr.com address would forward to that... The downside, is that your comcast.net user name probably won't be the same as your RR name - I don't think comcast does the "regional" breakdowns - everyone is just "@comcast.net".

Also, you shouldn't have to replace your cable modem - unless you don't want to rent it... RR provided the modem as part of the service (at least it did when I signed up...); Comcast usually lets you either buy your own or rent from them (a couple of bucks a month...).

BTW, at the Comets game, there's still a RoadRunner ad that comes up on the scrolling ads underneath the officials/scorers tables... (that was Friday night - Jun 22). I suspect that it will be there all season...

(I migrated to Verizon DSL once it was available in my neighborhood - same/better performance, half the price... I also have my own domain for mail now - no longer at the mercy of changing cable or phone companies...)

At least you got DSL from Verizon.....I am looking at a new home on the North side of Houston....Spring, Conroe, etc...
Cheap DSL is in SBC territory but thats a sliver of where I am looking.....Consolidated's DSL (Conroe) is NOT cheap....and Verizon on the north side/Willis has NO DSL......that only leaves the expensive cable (Suddenlink IF you can get it).
I have ATT at home right now and use Vonage on it...total costs is ~50 (I do use Dish for TV...I hate Cable)...and ATT is now offering a $10 DSL but they arent advertising it. So much for lower costs of living up north.
