Is Imus On The Way Out?

Not a good year so far for the I-Man.

First his Boston affiliate dropped the show.

Now, US News and World Report says Fox Business News is looking to drop the cable simulcast. Reportedly, nobody was paying much attention to FBN until they signed Imus. That got attention but USN&WR says Fox is not happy with the show's ability to draw viewers a year and half later. Meanwhile, the NY Daily News says Imus calls the report "insane" but also says he is not getting a straight answer from the suits at Fox Business ("TV execs are less trustworthy than drug dealers," said Imus who has reportedly had dealings with both).

The Daily News also says Imus has been dropping hints about retiring when his current radio contract is up next year.

It's very difficult to syndicate a talk radio show in the mornings in the first place. I'm surprised Citadel even went down this road when they hired him to WABC.

FBN's biggest problem - it's digital cable only pretty much everywhere.

That's not nearly the liability it was a few years ago, as most people have some form of digital cable now, but...CNBC is nearly always on low-channel placement, and FBN is not.

Here, CNBC is on expanded basic analog 36, and FBN is on digital 353 - and you have to pay for the extra cost "Digital Variety Pack" to get it.

TWC has mirrored the analog channels up into the digital tuning area, so you'll also find CNBC at 355...but at no extra cost.
