Is it 10~Seventy Where You Are?

No doubt KT'R will have the most comprehensive breaking news coverage of the Judge's decision on SB 10~Seventy, but KFWhyEye won't be far behind (afterall there are at least 3 times the bodies in 92~Three's newsroom than 5~Fifty's). But the most ranting will no doubt be on the Ancient Modulation band as that's what KFWhyEye does best. The anti-10~Seventy crowd has been bussed in and they're ready to make their presence seen and heard in the media. What's different this time is the high school kids can't ditch classes and make stupid statements 'cause school isn't in session. So the Nurse and I are hangin' by the frozen margarita machine in the Media Hut teacher's lounge and getting primed for wall to wall Si Se Puede* coverage!

I just hope the decision doesn't come out during or just after Beck's show. I don't think I can take an afternoon of Dumber and Dumberer trying to ANALyze SB1070.

KTAR had it about 10:10 am

While Rush was blathering on, tape delayed at KFYI. ::)

Same as it ever was.

I'm disappointed with this thread because I was going to start a thread like this, but with a different angle! I was going to discuss how the decrease of hispanic population due to people fleeing may affect rhythmic formatted stations geared towards the hispanic demographic.... and me!  ;D

10 minutes later....Rush still on tape delay, talking about electric cars.

Way to go KFYI! Someone wake up their news department.

20 minutes later, one commercial break, and still no news on KFYI.

But, now Rush is talking, tape delayed about his friendship with Elton John.

Wait! 10:30 break, we have breaking news now!

Only 20 minutes late.

How lame for KFYI.

We told ya so....No doubt KT'R will have the most comprehensive breaking news coverage of the Judge's decision on SB 10~Seventy, but KFWhyEye won't be far behind (afterall there are at least 3 times the bodies in 92~Three's newsroom than 5~Fifty's).

I guess there was no point in making a new post for myself because even this one got limited responses.

But then when you listen to the radio it sounds like it's some major holiday or once in a lifetime event taking place in Phoenix! It's like the A.M. version of a rhythmic top 40 F.M. holiday party mix weekend!! It's funny how media can make things in life seem so different. With the radio off, it's just another normal day for many of us. With the newstalk on, it's like a huge life changing type of event or something happened!

...But then again, a talk show hosts job is to be a talk show host and entertain. This was a great time to take advantage of an opportunity to discuss the issue. After all, people are talking about missing the days of when radio served the community. Well, today, this is the news that most people want to have delivered to them as it breaks.

Beck was pre-empted for full coverage of SB1070. :)

nasty demonstrations downtown today, could get ugly and out of hand.

KTAR has reporters live on the scene. KFYI has tape delayed Rush.

::)

KTAR is running commercial-free. Looks like Beck gets another day off! Premiere can't be happy about that! As soon as CC moves KFYI to FM, Beck will be there. :)

That's the plan....at least Greyhound is making money bussing 'em in from el Lay!

KTAR has reporters live on the scene. KFYI has tape delayed Rush.

KFWhyEye has reporters filing reports during news breaks on el Rushbo. KT'R is doing what they do best and it would be a sucker punch for KFWhyEye to follow the leader.

Blowhard Radio lives up to its name once again!

Jumped in wifey's car after her trip home from work to run a quick errand. She had 92.3 on the radio and two guys were blabbing away - neither making any sense nor delivering any useful information. Eventually I got it they were discussing the "defeat" of SB1070 but in statements that made you wonder if they had any idea what they were talking about.

Another nail in the coffin of Blabber Radio. Useless. Moot. A terrible waste of electricity.

You must know so much more about SB 1070 and its ramifications than any of us!

No useful information? Really? Uhh, there were HOURS of useful information and important viewpoints. Maybe your bias got in the way? (not a slam-- that really does happen to us all)

Gotta chuckle whenever Nurse Jeff and I hear those promos on KFWhyEye about their breaking news coverage on big stories like SB 10~Seventy. They were significantly behind KT'R in breaking the story and listeners had to wait through Limbaugh and Hannity to hear local talk on the subject. Dumber and Dumbest replaced Glenn Beck that day on 92~Three so Valley listeners could vent. Guess this makes sense to CC ..kinda like that "win $25 grand on Labor Day" contest. Only problem is that's another one of those Clear Channel multiple stations contests where you're competing against other listeners of their 800+ station chain! hmmmmmmmmmmm.

Very ironic. Back in the day, it was KFYI that would blow out regular programming (including Limbaugh) to cover a local news story. Even with a smaller news staff, KFYI made enough meaningful noise to do great radio. It was usually KTAR that was slow to respond (but once they did, they were formidable). Now KFYI is enslaved the corporate shackles. The Beer Baron was no picnic, but he did let the radio people run the place (mostly).

Maybe I should have added I listened for only about 5 minutes before the two "informed" hosts totally irritated me.

Given their breathless delivery and constant interruptions they might as well have been talking about the latest Lady Gag-me video. It was literally impossible to tell just what the subject was. If they are going to provide a worthwhile service they need to tone it down a bit otherwise it sounds like the studio is on fire and they must finish their shift very quickly.

BTW, I have no SB1070 bias unless being in support is considered bias. That didn't occur to me at the time because it was a full 5 minutes before I could figure out the subject. I couldn't tell you whether they were in favor, against or just giving a description. Very sad radio and an excellent example of why I don't have 92.3 on my presets.

I don't live in Phoenix, but if I did, 92.3 would be on my presets. SB 1070 was big news in the Phoenix area, and KTAR had it covered. KTAR showed where its priorities are when they pre-empted Glenn Beck to cover the events as they happened.

To truly appreciate KTAR, try listening to NYC talk radio. They don't talk about New York! WABC and WOR, the two largest talk stations, are totally committed to national programming. WABC is 100% syndicated (Mon-Fri), WOR is local only in AM Drive and Midddays. Only news, weather, traffic and station IDs identify WABC and WOR as New York radio stations. NYC should have a news/talk outlet like KTAR!

IMHO, Beck will only be on KTAR until KFYI moves to FM. :)

I don't consider pre-empting Beck to be much of a 'sacrifice'. That said, the SB1070 court challenge, like most of them, is going to be a months-long process and not breaking news. To breathlessly present it as breaking news is false drama.

That must be a nice change for New Yorkers. When I lived there in the 60's the NY media rarely, if ever, covered any story from west of the Hudson river.

This was definitely a story, in my opinion, where a lot of the hype was media generated. Or, as you put it, false drama.

In my opinion, Mac and Gaydos' strength is not breaking news. In fact, BSJ didn't do a very good job covering the breaking news that morning. I would have preferred to have Ned and Connie stay over to cover the breaking news. I prefer to have journalists cover the news, not the talking heads who host their own show.

I only tune in to KTAR at the top and bottom of the hour for news updates. Even then, I rely more on the internet for my news and I don't usually get it from KTAR.com.
