Is it a phase, or is the "Motown" sound coming around again...

Between the combination of Christina Aguilera's "Ain't No Other Man" and Gnarls Barkley's "Crazy" ... this we'll be hearing this "sound" a lot more? It's new to the audience, but they probably don't even know what Motown is... I like it, may want more of it... depending on which way it goes.

Christina Aguilera put out a very original song with "Ain't No Other Man". There's really nothing else like it on the radio today. It deserves all of the attention that it's getting, and it's no wonder why it's the fastest-growing smash of the year at CHR-POP radio.

As for the Gnarls Barkley song this is basically the final stop for it. It's been a # 1 / TOP 5 smash all across Europe and Australia / New Zealand. It was one of the longest-running # 1 hits in British chart history, and now it's finally blazing up our charts. It's got a great late-1960s / early-1970s R & B feel to it. It actually reminds me of a Jackie Wilson song - "I Get The Sweetest Feeling".

I think that both of these songs are amazing and 'above the pack', and that's why they are doing so good. I wouldn't even call it a phase. They are simply two outstanding songs that are on the radio today.

I certainly hope so. We need more musical sounds in Top 40 today. The like of Lil' Jon's "Snap Yo Fingers" sure isn't doing the trick.

Actually Deja Vu has beat it with above 1800 spins (Christina's got about 1500 in between 25-30).

Last year if my mind serves me correctly Incomplete had 1200 spins in the upper 20s.

Anyways, I like the whole "motown" style. I also enjoy that there are actually quality dance songs on the chart (Promiscuous, So What, Ain't No Other Man, Gimme That, Crazy, and Give It Up To Me to name some).

YES - I noticed that "Deja Vu" had skyrocketed in spins over the past 7 days - even past "Ain't No Other Man" which has cooled off just a bit. Have you noticed that the new Janet Jackson song is struggling to get off the ground ? I've heard it. I see why.

Janet should of stuck to pop music and not dabbled in Hip-hop like this song sounds to me.

I agree. My favourite Janet Jackson song of all-time is "Love Will Never Do (Without You)" from the hit-packed "Rhythm Nation 1814" album which yielded a MASSIVE 8 TOP 5 singles here in the U.S. !

Can Janet pull off a comeback a la Mariah Carey ? I don't think so based on her new single. Maybe there will be some stronger songs in her new album.

Seems like everyone is putting the new Janet song to sleep already. Sounds like another Damita Jo attempt to create a new "style".
