Is it just me or....

...did Nova M start simulcasting recently?

I was surfing the dial the other day and noticed that liberal talk is now on 1190 AM as well as 1480. It appears to be simulcast.

Since 1190 was supposed to go dark anyway, this is probably a good move, but only marginally so. The 1190 nighttime signal is better than 1480, but that ain't saying much. The daytime signal is probably a bit stronger, but both 1480 and 1190 cover the Phoenix metro adequately when the sun is up. I suppose the best scenario is for a somewhat better PM drive signal in most areas of town when the signal has to be powered down after sunset.

As I recall, lo those many years ago as a lowly jock at the then-KRDS, the nighttime signal for 1190 was great in the west valley (the xmtr is in Tolleson), adequate in central Phoenix (which is good for liberal talk) but pretty bad in Scottsdale. I'm not sure about Tempe, where Nova M would presumably get a decent portion of their audience.

The question, of course, is who owns what and when will the signal permanently switch to 1190?

Wikipedia shows the simulcast of KPHX 1480 and KNUV 1190 began on 10/09/08.

Anecdotally, both night signals are almost non-existent in the 'Tuke.

This morning while I was monitoring our two errant lamptimers (on 1060 and 1440)
I also noticed that KPHX 1480 was already on day power around 7:06, when their
specified power-up time for December is 7:30. KNUV 1190 was still buried then, and
if memory serves (I didn't write it down), they powered up properly around 7:30.

Both frequencies played nice this afternoon--1480 powered down at 5:14-something
for their 5:15, and 1190 at 5:30:13 for their 5:30.
