Is It just me, or do listeners....really give a c---???

I jumped in my car and was tuned to KIOT with Erica..no music (which Is why I listen to radio for, Music).. she was talking about (Why girls love bad boys) I immediatley tuned out to the next station a CHR station, and they were talking about "40% of women Feel no romance in their Lives" , again do i give a c--- ???. Back to KIOT she is still talking about bad boys..a total of 22 minutes went by and no music on KIOT...I have noticed they have gone thru some changes lately and looks like they went from bad to worse, even thou their numbers are up . a couple of years ago this station got better...now they are going backwards.

I proceeded to 104.7 classic country, and thankfully they were playing music. had KIOT been talking about a subject related to clasic Rock or the Artists, that would have caught my ear...I read recently in Billboard ..in 2010..concert revenue, U2 has been the biggest act , followed by AC/DC..something like that for 30 seconds would have been great , then some music...but "why girls love bad boys , please.

Forty years ago this month a DJ in El Cajon, Ca debuted a weekly TOP 40 syndicated show that became one of the most successful shows in the history of radio, and, he became an icon... Casey Kasem. His formula...play the music and give us a quick, interesting tidbit about the song or artist or writer or story behind the song. the listeners loved It.

Before they cleaned house a few months back, 104.7 was talking too much in the morning, really painful to listen too...and recently, It seems to me??? that they got a little older in the rotation, which I liked, so i am back to listening a little more, and if I am not mistaken they are neck and neck with the other two country stations. Is Albuquerque ripe for another FM Classic country station ???

And I tuned in to KKSS FM and their girl DJ was taking calls about how many tattoo's on your body...some girl called in that all 32 tattoo's on her body, had some significant detail of her life...wow, just to deep for me , so I moved on.

98.5 format is getting younger and it's working...at a 10 year low 2.7 trend that's exactly 50% drop in 5 years...they have made that commitment....how low will they go, before their decision starts paying off, numbers wise , their traffic hasn't dipped , the advertisers are still there, but the listeners aren't...... Abq is ripe for a new FM oldies station...but oh, I forgot Oldies are dead...someone forgot to tell every fast food joint , restaurant, hotel, bar I go into..they are playing that dead format Oldies.

Hey I am just a frustrated listener...venting....I gave up on stations request for listener feedback which is then totally ignored...

good day..........Radio-less in Seattle.

I am on the Same page.....Real Oldies 1600AM here in Albuquerque Had a 1.8 in the last Book Up from a 0.9 a year ago...gee I wonder where all those 98.5 Listeners are going? Oh yeah back to AM for the 60's They Love. We play Lost of Music with Jocks that add to the Music, just like you say. My Bits in the Morning either relate to news oldies listener want or are quick light and tight fun stuff.....Play the Hits
We had an Advertiser call US the other day Saying they see we do Really Well 45+ and wants on our Station (Just one of several calls in the last few Months.

laters

I agree with both the above - play the music, and keep the chatter related to the genre.

If I want to know what you had for breakfast or how many tats on your bod or the details of your love life I'll check you out on Facebook or Twitter. ::)

Is ABQ going to become a PPM market in the future? If so, stations will NOT be able to get away with those long talk breaks. They would actually be better off with no jock at all (even in mornings) than having a show that talks too much. PPM highly rewards music intensive stations.

My favorite Yogi Berra-ism.."I'ts Like Deja-Vu all over again"...didn't 98.5 replace a perfectly capable Lady DJ ...about six months ago and proceed recently to replace her with another capable lady DJ. There was an additional Imrovement at the time...but, basically the station sounds the same ???? Which reminds me of another favorite Berra-ism "You can observe alot, by watching".

"You've opened up a whole box of Pandoras" here, Hornet61. (Another famous Yogi Berra quote)

I believe it was former NM Gov Bruce King who was responsible for the phrase "Box of Pandoras"

Bruce King, who said famously, "You open up a box of Pandoras" when you criticize people's performance, especially when you know that to be false. ..... the beloved Gov was always a base hit away from his own yogi-isms...... nice catch chill

"Box of Pandoras" also attributed to:
Al Gore Jr
Marion Berry
Casey Stengel

I do believe GLB is correct ......in that, It is, a Yogi Berra Original (If not, It should have been).

PS: I misquoted Yogi Earlier, the actual line is :

'If you get to A fork in the road, take It."
