Is It Now '50s & '60s on 5?

Why am I hearing Take A Letter Maria (1969), Fire (1968) and Fortunate Son (1969) on '50's on 5? All between 5:30 p.m. and 6:15 p.m. CDT on 5/2. Did they legalize pot in D.C.? I mean, imagine hearing Fire and Mr. Sandman within a 5 minute period!

Channel 5 is running an XM Internet station this weekend "Rock and Roll Party", which covers uptempo songs from the 50's through the 70's. The regular programming returns on Monday. They have been doing this quite a bit..running their special Internet only channels on a limited basis on the satellite. Guess they figure if you hear it and like it you'll sign up for their internet service

Until they bundle it with the subscription, Internet is out. I will use Pandora or one of the other streaming services.

They're taking a risk. If people hear it and DON'T like it, they may cancel their satellite service!

It seems pretty obvious that SXM sees its future as Internet-only, what with all these channel takeovers to promote Internet streams and the shutdown of many of the terrestrial repeaters. Risky, given the data caps and coverage limitations prevalent in the wireless business today, but I guess they're gambling that eventually the whole country will be covered and the telcoms will buy up so much bandwidth that data caps will become ancient history. We shall see.

The heavily rythmic-leaning, mostly 1960's music was just for the weekend as the other posters said, but the channel had been the "60s on five" for YEARS, with 1960s releases (mainly 1960-64 but I've heard as late as 1967) making up about half the playlist if not a little bit more, and 1950s music before the rockabilly revolution essentially totally absent.

One thing I do fear is that they are heading to a phase-out of 50s on 5 by breaking the routine so that listeners will not notice it disappearing if they do kill it. It's not a good sign that they recently pulled all the jocks.

Can't verify this, but I was told by another that they were 'forced' to pay an extra $4 a month as internet streaming was required for their subscription now, bringing the old original $9.99 with free streaming XM cost; then $12.95, then $12.95 + royalties, + sales tax, then 2014 rate increase, now forced internet bringing the cost up to over $18.00/ month now.
