Is it time for a Houston comeback?

If he was in possession of a huge cash stash, we'd see a Gallery in Katy, Cypress, Clear Lake, etc. Probably in Dallas and Atlanta as well.
His quote on one location is "they can only steal so much from me at 1 location"
That is why you always see him at the counter at the front door. But he has modified that when he opened the galleria store

I think Mac has done just fine for himself. There was a Gallery Furniture commercial back in the 90's which had a Ferrari (F40 maybe?) delivering mattresses. It was HIS Ferrari.

Ask the Room Store how all their showrooms worked out...

While I think we all long for the "good old days," I agree that the demographics and tastes have changed. On a music front, a KLOL wouldn't work now because there's not enough of an audience for current AOR music (you'd have to become a classic rock station -- there's not enough people who want to hear new Van Halen, for example). Same with a dance format or show. The audience for dance music isn't large enough to support it anymore. The kids don't go to clubs like we (or at least I) did 20 years or so ago.

I have to know how you can speak with such authority on this subject? Houston is a city of 4+ Million people. Are you telling me if out of those 4+ Million people only 10% like rock music that an audience of 400k is not a large enough audience?

Where do you get your data from? Are you quoting the mysterious and magical Arbitron ratings or just making this up as you go? There are plenty of Rock & Roll listeners out there. Unless those people who were listening died, it is unlikely that their music tastes have changed. We are all of these people trying to convince us that there is no Rock & Roll market?

Depends on what you consider "rock & roll." The problem today is what used to be a unified format has splintered into about a dozen sub-formats, with audiences that don't like big chunks of what is considered rock & roll. Take a look at the discussion on the New York board about the revived WRXP. Lots of arguments about what songs they should and shouldn't play. You never see that discussion about other formats. This is a station that will probably top out with a 2 share (2% of the radio audience, not the population). It's possible that such a station could get that same number in Houston. But the audience wouldn't be 400,000 people. At best, maybe a quarter of that.

BigA is correct. Rock has so many niches now that it is hard to have a unified format that plays all rock from several decades and today. If you want things formatted a certain way, you're best loading your iPod or iPhone with music that you like.

I'm here to tell you that you are both wrong. I am doing it right now with Rock 101 KLOL and the response has been fantastic. Check out the Facebook page if you want verification. I am playing all of those niche genres you are talking about and a few people may tune out on some songs, then tune back in later.

Sorry guys but you are out of touch on this one. You are just parroting what others are saying and I know it to be false.

188 "likes?" Wow. I guess you showed me. I'll check your site traffic report next month.

That is only since July 7th... You do that, but then you will not be able to see the direct connects from the players. Don't have to visit the website to listen to the stream wise guy. How many likes does your station have? Funny how when you can't backup your wild claims you resort to being childish. What are you going to say next.... Nanny Nanny Boo Boo?

Internet radio is measured in the tens and hundreds.

Broadcast radio is measured in the hundreds of thousands and the millions.

There is a difference of scale.
