Is K-Rock Returning To Its Nu Metal Roots?

I notice that K-Rock seems to be drifting away from the upbeat,classic-party rock of the past couple of months back to the station it was prior to Rob Cross.
Lots of slow, downer Nu Metal mixed with slow downer grunge
mixed with hard rock retro cuts. For example:New Staind followed by old Pearl Jam followed by Black Sabbath followed by New Disturbed...

these are the bands' new songs I seem to hear a lot on K-Rock these days-
Staind,Mudvayne,Seether,Disturbed,Foo Fighters,Audioslave.All these bands are
either grunge/post-grunge or Nu Metal.Unless you are an angry young white male,
do you really want to hear these bands? What happened to all the hair-metal?

> >GOOD! I'm glad its back. I'll have to tune in this weekend when i'm up in the city. I was getting sick of all the hair bands and classic retro (BAB) songs. There is no reason why K-Rock should be playing Rolling Stones, The Doors. Geez 104.3 is where its should be. I'm glad they are back to the "New York's Rock Radio" K-Rock days.

People didn't get my original point about K Rock which is that playing younger bands like Slipknot and Green Day is essential because K Rock needs to court a younger audience.
I realize that 12+ means nothing to an advertiser, but for listenership, it's a biggie.

And if Slipknot's not a good example, then try Coldplay.

I think K Rock could pull in decent numbers with an alternative leaning rocker.

Sure--play GNR, KISS (if you must), Aerosmith, and definitely keep playing Pantera, but play newer cuts and give NYC a chance to hear more new rock.

Hair metal is not good for numbers. It sells and appeals mostly to late 30's and 40's people who want some cheesy nostalgia.

Check the sales for Slipknot's last tour and compare to Poison's--vastly different numbers.
Coldplay? No contest.

Playing one or two hair metal songs is OK and can be regreshing, but frequenting them as format "winners" is a ratings suicide.

What K Rock still needs to develop further is an edge that listeners can't find on Q104. That doesn't mean "harder"--necessarily. It just means being creative in finding a balance between the new stuff and the old.

Alternative nor active rock will ever get astonishing numbers in this market. The audience for some reason is lacking.

I think in some was K Rock was better than KROQ in LA.
KROQ has about the same number of songs in its playlist (maybe a 100 more) than K Rock so the playlist not being wide enough is not a valid assertion.

If infinity can live with a niche format (which it should), then K Rock could stay around after Howard leaves.

The ratings have gone up considerably in the last book, but that is owed mostly to format sampling. The radio professionals on this board know this, I'm sure.
Whether the newfound audience sticks around has yet to be seen.
