Is KBBB and KJOJ dead for ever?

These 2 stations gone for good? Looks like EMF or someone could buy them. I liked KBBB when they were KMKS.

KJOJ-FM is not coming back...the tower failed in 2020 and the FCC finally cancelled the license and deleted the calls in 2022. So, the station no longer exists for someone to buy. The only way for it to return is for someone to apply for it, get FCC approval and be issued a construction permit for a new license, and construct it from scratch.

KBBB license is apparently still active. How long have they been off the air? Can’t find any Silent STA request for them.

KJOJ is gone, license cancelled by the FCC after long silence following the tower collapse. Estrella Media had no interest in reviving the station, or lacked the money to do so.

Look like we posted at the same time.😆

The 103.3 frequency has been allotted to Wharton for a C2, but I don’t think the formal station application process has begun, anyone have an update? Never heard if that meant the Freeport allotment for 103.3 was moved or deleted.

Sadly, according to my buddy down in Wadsworth, 102.5 has been off the air since 2022. It was sold by the Sandlin estate, flipped to an AC after years of running country, and suddenly vanished from the dial. It's co-owned with KIOX, which apparently stops any hope of it going back to any flavor of country.

Hard to believe. KMKS was the once the most listened to radio station down there. Consistently sat at the top of the rice mountain looking down on the various also-rans that came and went over the years. But that was with Mary Sandlin guiding the ship. Without her, this is what's been left of the 100,000 watt C1.

The allotment for 103.3 was granted, but expect all of us to be too far down in the soil to hear it once it takes to the air.

By the time KMKS was sold, it went for around 100 grand-with a tower that was in terrible shape, and a technical plant that has not been properly maintained in quite some time from what I was told. When I inquired about tower, transmitter, antenna and transmission line, I was told by someone with first hand knowledge: "it is all pretty much f*cked." I did hear that the current owner is planning on relocating KBBB to the Markham tower of his co-owned channel at 92.5, but I do not know where that stands. He'll gave to give up some height but dang will that thing be dense!

It doesn't look like they have filed to do that yet. The last filing at the FCC for any changes was two years ago for a STA to operate at 10% power.

I used to frequently hear KMKS in NW Harris County some years back, but never heard it again after Hurricane Harvey back in 2017. Had long wondered if the station sustained damage from that storm.

I liked back in the day when KIOX was X97 KMKS and classic country KXGJ.

KBBB has filed for an STA to operate with 250 watts from a tower located a few miles NNE of the licensed location:

“Bay and Beyond Broadcasting LLC, (“B & B”), is the licensee of station KBBB Channel 273C1 Facility ID No. 58979, Bay City, Texas. The KBBB licensed facility experienced a catastrophic failure due to a dead short in the coaxial cable which caused major damage to the coax, antenna and transmitter. The tower is also in poor condition and not be safe to climb making repairs impossible. B & B herein requests an Engineering STA to operate KBBB from a different transmit location.
The STA antenna is located at an existing tower. The coordinates are 28-52-26.0 North Latitude, 096-08-23.0 West Longitude (NAD 83). The tower is 125.6 meters in overall height and is registered with the Commission and assigned Antenna Structure Registration (“ASR”) number 1047128.
The KBBB emergency antenna is an RVR ACPO two bay full wave circularly polarized non- directional antenna operating with 250 watts ERP at 119 meters above ground level and 118 meters HAAT. Exhibits are included demonstrating compliance with RFR exposure limits and that the emergency antenna FCC F(50,50) 60 dBu contour is contained inside the licensed facility FCC F(50,50) 60 dBu contour. B&B will operate from this facility until repairs can be made to the licensed facility or KBBB receives a construction permit to operate from a different tower.”
