Is KC101.3 competeing with FM104.1?

So I was listening to what I thought was fm1041 but it turned out to be KC101.3. I was listening for just over 20 straight minutes and 4 out of the 5 songs were rock.

At about 2:15pm I heard an old Stone Temple Pilots song (rock) followed by commercials. Then after the commercials they played Boys Like Girls (rock), then Paramore (rock). Then they broke the "rock block" with a Timberland song (rap) but quickly went back by play a new Buckcherry song (rock).

I am relatively new to the area, but I have never heard a CHR station play soooo much rock. Am I crazy?

I have noticed this myself, I was gonna post something about this, looks like you beat me to it. but yeah I have no idea why cheapchannel would be competing with themselves it makes no sense, although Kc101 has always incorporated more rock in their playlist as opposed to kiss but never this much.

You never know what you're going to get with KC101. One minute it's all rock, the other it's rap/r&b. They've always beem more rock-oriented than Kiss. I think both Kiss and KC101 have totally lost the plot.

i thought radio is too cookie-cutter? now you're complaining that a station does it's own thing according to their local market?

and now that i think about it. this makes no sense at all. 104 is a 90's based alternative station. outside of a couple of pearl jam songs, kc101 and 104 barely share song titles. and looking at kc101's playlist - a rock station? are you kidding? they look like a pretty balanced chr to me.

I assume you mean 93.7 FM in Wilmington, DE? From what I've heard, they sound like a HOT AC station, much like WTIC-FM 96.5 of Hartford.

KC101 also can compete with the New York stations (101.9 WRXP is from New York) based on its location. Kiss 95.7 doesn't make it as far on I-95 south as KC101 because of WEFX 95.9. KC101's 15 miles closer to New York. It wouldn't make sense to have an identical CHR format in Hamden and Meriden on 50,000 watt sticks.

KC 101.3 and 104.1 are Clear Channel Stations . I like The Old days , when One station is competeing with another station , of a different Owner ( act of 96 s-cks ) .

I agree 100%. I think the competition made radio fun to listen to.

It sure did. An example of this was the wars between Jam'n 94.5 & Kiss 108 up here in Boston in the early 90's. They were both on pretty much a smear campaign with each other, even DJ's calling each other out on the air. It was always interesting to listen to what they would say next about each other. Jam'n 94.5: "While Kiss is talkin, we're Jam'n" Kiss 108: "While Jam'n is all 'Jammed' up with commercials, we've got the hot hits" Then after that whatever company bought out whatever station, and both stations were suddenly under the same ownership. You can bet that those stations didn't compete like that anymore. In fact, this was when Jam'n went more Rhythmic/Urban to differentiate from the CHR Kiss 108. And it's been the same since. Both are now owned by Cheap Channel.

We had more of a 3-way competition in Connecticut during this time. It was Kiss 95.7 against 96-TIC against KC 101 as the 3 major CHRs.
