Is KDJM about to be set "FREE"????

Hi everyone

No way. It's *because* of KDJM that Infinity has a virtual lock on Denver's oldies audience. Why would they want to jeopardize that for an unproven and untested format?

On top of that, Howard Stern & his show hasn't seen the light of day on the Denver Radio dial since the Jammin' Oldies format was rolled out and KVOD was exiled to AM (I remember this because it was the week after Columbine).

In short, I just don't see it happening. At least not on Jammin' 92.5 anyways.

Just my opinion :)

Cheers for now :)

Hey Pat,

I don't know if with your comments that you are impleying that Howard Stern was ever on any Denver Infinity station. He never has been on any Denver Infinity station. Stern was on Chancellor Media's KXPK '96.5 The Peak' back when he was heard here in Denver and was taken off the air here in Denver around May 1999 because of his comments about Columbine but Stern was never on a Denver Infinity station.

KVOD was dumped to AM for Jammin' Oldies when 92.5 was Chancellor owned (at the time) launched KDJM. Infinity never came into the picture until Chancellor and Jacor merged to form what is Clear Channel today. Infinity bought KIMN, KXKL & KDJM from CC back in (late 1999 or early 2000 if I'm correct) due to CC having to sell off stations because of ownership limits.

Didn't know if you are tryin to say that Stern was on an Infinity station or just saying that he was on Denver airwaves before???

Dawn, if you re-read my comments above, you would see that I'm actually referring to May 1999 without even mentioning it. I know that Howard was never on any of the Infinity stations (except for *maybe* a short time on 9/11) because they were already aware of the public backlash created by Howard's disparaging comments about Columbine and undoubtedly didn't want to take the chance of history repeating itself.

On top of this, by the time they took over KIMN, KDJM, and KXKL, I think it was also around this same time that KCNC 4 was probably getting a lot of flack from viewers for putting Howard's Saturday Night TV show on at 10:35 PM, which prompted them to move it into the wee hours of the morning.

Umm...Actually neither. He just *wasn't* on an Infinity-owned station.

But where he's going, he won't have to worry about the FCC now. :)

Cheers for now everyone :)

Thanks Pat for the response and clearing that up. It just sounded to me that you were implying that Stern was on an Infinity Denver station but your answer cleared it all up. :)

Judging from their actions in other markets, I don't think Infinity especially values having a lock on the oldies audience. I would like to think KXKL is safe, especially after their excellent Summer book. But KDJM has to be vulnerable, especially since Infinity is looking for potential affiliates for it's FREE FM network.

Despite more failures than success with Hot Talk, Infinity seems hell bent on the format. If you look at their existing Hot Talk FMs across the country, Howard Stern is usually the only show that pulls numbers. Yet Infinity is going to launch a post-Stern national talk network. I say good luck because they are really going to need it.

New Yorkers thought the same way about WCBS-FM 101. Look what happened.

Ahh...BUT It is BECAUSE the Hot Talk format was a failure outside of Howard Stern that they *didn't* put it on 92.5 when they took possession of it OR in the first year of ownership afterward.

Naah...I can't see it coming to Denver (unless of course 101.5 or 107.1 were to become an affiliate). Infinity isn't THAT stupid.

Just my opinion :)

Cheers for now :)

It appears that they are doing Rover morning/free fm stations which to me would be what Infinity would put in Denver. Rover, for those of you that don't remember, was an ex jock on 96.5 the peak in it's alt rock days, therefore he is no stranger to Denver. I say Infinity registered the domain name just in case they do ever decide to do this.<P ID="signature">______________
