Is Kevin Wall the choice?

The GST website now shows Kevin Wall as the mid morning guy with all other names deleted.

Could it be that after the musical chairs of rotating hosts that GST has settled upon Wall as the full time guy?

Where are the "BIG" names that were supposed to be coming in to give this thing a crack?

My own personal opinion is that Wall is a capable fill in host, but for the full time role? If they expect any kind of a respectable arbitron number they are only fooling themselves if they believe that Wall can make any kind of a dent against Boortz.

Anyone with any further info?

Well there's *a* choice...

At least according to the host that filled in for Kimmer this afternoon. As I was listening online, I heard him mention that management has made a selection for the 9-12 noon slot, adding that "there is a Southern conspiracy" or something along those lines. No names mentioned in that segment, by the way.<P ID="signature">______________

Monday morning axing day

This is almost impossible to believe.

If Kevin Wall is really the choice after this mind numbing stupid search with everyone but the GST janitor getting a shot at it, the person who settled on the decision to hire Kevin Wall full time should be fired on Monday morning first thing.

The air (whatever was left) has just left the GST sails.

They may as well run a white flag up the pole at GST headquarters.

Its over.

The whole process was amateur hour. Really showed nobody understood talk radio.

I don't think Kevin Wall is the choice or a decision has been made. But they figured out that calling attention to the fact they can't make a decision wasn't helping them.

This process will continue behind the scenes and not on the web site as much.

aloha...
i have been a lurker here for a while (though I am fairly active on other boards where I am at (Michigan)) ... I have had no real reason to post here, since well, I dont get to hear a much radio from down there. but is always interesting to know whats goin on around the country...

so, why chose this thread to post first?

well... I know Kevin, worked with him up in Detroit, I knew that he was up for the Atlanta gig.. and thought I would check out what folks are saying.

frankly, I am a little confused. a lot of folks around here seem to have very broad opinions about people up for this gig without mentioning anything of substance. If Kevin is the choice.. what is it that makes you so negative toward it? is it his voice? approach? silly laugh? sense of self deprecation?

here is what I know about Kev...

he is a fun guy with a huge heart and a slightly conservative world view...

I am not certain that you folks have had the opportunity to sample what his show can be... he has been filling in for gods sake!

he has quite a few tricks up his sleeve, not the least of which is that fact he listens.... callers are the focus... not just his personal opinion.

Hosts should have an opinion, and strong ones at times... you will find that with Kevin... .. otherwise you might as well just have a producer and an open line for people to call in a argue... but, he truly believes that callers opinion matters. the open forum is extremely valuable in an age where many host wont take a call unless the agree with him...

Live, LOCAL,and Listening to callers is the way you beat an 800lb. gorrilla like boortz...

by the way... Kevin also does a Weekend show on KFI in L.A... the #1 talker in the nation... not pimpin his broadcast.... just thinking that if he's good enough for L.A......

Sorry but that Wall shouldn't go up

No malice at all intended fresnel, but the fact of the matter is that your boy is an average talk radio person in my opinion.

He may be a nice man and all that but the fact is that if GST did choose Wall as its official host, then they have zero shot at accumulating any sort of solid listener base opposite the Neil Boortz show.

I find Wall to be someone who I could see filling in. But a full time guy in a near top 10 market? No.

I also noticed that Wall does some part time work in Los Angeles on KFI?

He's a part timer doing a Saturday show correct?

Thought so.

Fill in the blanks on your own.

thats alright... we all have opinion! (which is part of my point..
I will ge to that in a second... )

please allow me to respectfully call you out on a few things though...

first.... what is the basis of your opinion?

fill in the blanks? sure!

let me see... kevin spent a couple years on Sporting news radio full time, where he was on in several top ten markets, was full time in Detroit.... a top ten market.... and is one of hosts on Westwood Ones olympic coverage every couple of years..... but doesnt qualify for market 11!?!

here is all I am saying... IF he is the choice... give the guy a fair shot....

he has been filling in, he hasnt had chance to surround himself with all the accrutrements that he is accustomed too...

what you will find is not a guy that will tell you what your opinion should be, and never flex .... but a guy that will throw oout a topic, give you where he stands, and then open things for the people...

I know, the hot thing for everyone to do since limbaugh blew up has been to try and drive opinion... but I think that is starting to play itself out... people want to be able to voice their own opinions... otherwise, blogging and podcasting would not be so popular.... using radio as a public forum... instead of a bully pulpit for personal opinions... interesting concept....

Re: Sorry but that Wall shouldn't go up

Rush, Boortz,Savage and Hannity all have compelling personalities with some substance to a go along with it.

Kevin Wall is solid broadcaster but not really that interesting.

You are not going to tune it to hear what Kevin has to say about the issues like you would these other guys.

Also has no real talk radio experience. He was a sports guy in Detroit.
