IS KFI BACK TO 50KW?

Found KFI testing last night after 3AM, no programing, carrier on and off and various power levels. Back on before 5AM and a very solid carrier. Anyone know if they are back on their 50KW and new tower?

That sounds like ATU tuning. The only OIB (operating impedence bridge) I know only takes 10 kw through it, so they might have been at that power range with open carrier to do the antenna tuning unit adjustments, running resistence and reactance measurements, going off to move taps and such, and comeing back on.

To me, that would mean the 50 kw operation could happen in next 24 to 48 hours unless there are significant component changes in the ATU that were not pre-calculated (rare).

Obviously, to tune the Disneyland tower they have to turn off Montecito Heights, or the new tower will act like a great big tuned reception antenna.

They were off (no modulation) I think from 1AM to 3AM. I, too, noticed the seemingly stronger signal. Lately at night I could hear a spanish language station in the background during KFI's few quiet moments. No more.

Congrats on the imminent return of 50 gallons to KFI.

Now if the C.E. would only "forget" to turn on the I-CRAP
at La Mirada, or better yet, "accidentally" drop it on the

Since a lot of my KFI listening occurs on the Metrolink, I would say that they are already back at 50KW. After the original tower crash I had variable results and mostly noise while on a train. When they were on the Montecito Heights I got them fine, from North Hollywood to downtown, but once headed out of Union Station towards the IE it would fade out again. Now I get solid reception all the way.

As to the I-crap I have gotten used to it living under the 710 towers. I wish that they would can it but until they realize that no one listens it will stay on. Wish I had came up with a system to effectively rent some piece of technology to people who have no have no need to have it. Then to add to the insult sell consumers twenty five dollar table radios for 10 times that. Guess that's why I'm still poor.

AHHHHHH SOH Sr. Gleason!! Very good very good. I get it and I had seen the tower before you made this post, though the parachutes didn't seem attached at the time I viewed the tower with my naked eye.

I see where Radio Journal reports that Jon & Ken will do their show from the transmitter site Thursday when they officially power up the new tower. Wonder how long it's been since KFI "broadcast" from the transmitter site?

That story was on Wednesday but obviously you are not a regular listener to "Handel on The News". The end of each 6am and also the 8:30am edition of HOTN always features some kind of weird stories, often involving gaseous (and other) intestinal emissions or offbeat sexcapades. Weird animal stories and human relationships thereto are also favorites.

They did the "official" turn on today though I think they have been at full power a lot of the time lately based upon my own reception perception not any actual field strength measurement.

I'm very familiar with Handel but the piece I'm referring to was aired during a break on Rush's show. Maybe around 10:30.
I stopped listening to Handel after his childish rant involving his two daughters in the elevator. I can't believe KFI let him get away with his teenage attitude.
