Is KGBT (RGV) for sale?

I read an article on TVNewscheck a few weeks ago that said Barrington Broadcasting was looking to sell it's stations. I hope it's true. I feel like that station has been ruined. It's been years that they choose to air paid programming weekday mornings at 9. It's like they don't even try anymore. Their newscasts are widescreen but not HD. The station is a shell of its former self.

KGBT's problems started long, long, before Barrington took over...not that it has helped the station any. The article presents it as fact that the entire group is up for sale. No word on whether it could be broken up or has to be sold as an entity.

As for KGBT, The folks over in Weslaco (I can say as a former employee ;D) have invested too much and worked for too long to get where they are and the various owners of KGBT since the Tichenor days never responded.

I've been in the business long enough to know that every station is always for sale. It's a matter of the right offer walking in the door.

With that said, it would be interesting if someone with deep pockets bought both KGBT and KVEO.

My bet is that Sinclair winds up with both KGBT and KVEO, combines the operations (that is, fires long-term employees), and goes after the ad dollars in that market with a vengeance.

The Manships over at KRGV would be up to the task of a single, strong, competitor in the English market, as opposed to simply punching two also-rans, which is what they face now. I don't know of a family in the country that is more devoted to their stations than are they. Fred, I suppose there is a check large enough for them to walk away from the Valley, but I can't imagine the figure.
