IS KPRC Channel 2, Houston, going to add an additional subchannel?

tonight I am getting a signal that popped up on 35-5 with a test pattern and tone with KRPC TV HOUSTON over the color bars. Anyone have any idea what this is? I did not rescan, this just showed up on 35-5, which must be the real RF channel, not along with 2-1, 2-2 and 2-3. Wondering what this is, and why this would show up without me having rescanned, although the tuner might be reading that it knows that something is being broadcast on RF 35 and just pick up any new subchannel on that signal. I am using a small portable TV to check the broadcast signals.

35.5 is the same as 2.3. They may have had a glitch with their PSIP. KPRC does have plans for a new subchannel to be added to 2.3, but they're not saying what it is.

Does 2.3 still work?

Most TVs will tune a digital signal both by inputting the virtual channel (2.3 in this case) -- *and* by inputting the RF channel and "program number". KPRC is indeed RF channel 35, and virtual channel 2.3 is indeed program number 5.

I would expect 35.4 would deliver ThisTV, and 35.3 would show NBC. (same thing as 2.2 and 2.1 respectively)

I'm not getting 2.3 anymore. That was LATV -- so is LATV gone from KPRC? 35.5 just has color bars, a tone, a moving dot and the words KRPC-TV Houston. But the test pattern is actually better programming than on some of the channels!

Could be a network that hasn't launched yet, such as Kin TV or Soul of the South, or one of the Luken services. Or perhaps grabbing something that's currently on one of the LPTV's when the contract expires.

Apparently the other PNS stations have picked up Weigel's "Me-TV" in place of LATV. I'm guessing KPRC is next when the deal with indy KUBE-57/Baytown expires.

Apparently Soul of the South launches sometime during Memorial Day weekend. Might keep an eye on the local subchannels to see if any Houston (or other Texas) station picks it up.

Don't forget that KIAH 39.3 has been unused since Universal Sports ditched OTA distribution.

I certainly hope "Me-TV" does strike a deal with Post Newsweek and KPRC locally. I have a difficult time with KUBE's signal remaining steady and watchable sometimes, most notably when a cool front comes from the north.

I wonder why one TV I have shows the channel as 2.3 but the portable tv as 35.3 -- because when LATV was still broadcasting at that slot, the portable TV picked it up as 2.3, but now it sees it at 35. 3

Something hinky in their PSIP. KWDA in Dallas had a similar issue for some time - some receivers would show their virtual channel of 30, but others showed their RF channel of 21. Eventually they got it straightened out, but it was confusing for a while (especially since we already had another channel 21!)
