Is KYNO Gone?

(While this should probably be in the Fresno thread, I am unable to put it there due to the required prefix my screenreading software cannot navigate. Therefore, if a moderator can place this thread in the proper category, that would be very much appreciated.)

As of last night, KYNO-AM's webstream is rebroadcasting the classic country programming of co-owned KWDO-FM. However, the station's website looks untouched. Can anybody on the ground verify if KYNO-AM is still playing oldies over the air. Thank you in advance.

Yes , oldies are heard via a Madera, California based SDR.

In the past, the KYNO Internet audio stream was geo-fenced to only be heard in California.

I can confirm that, Ted. Through the static and hash, I heard them segue from Tobacco Road to La Bamba just a moment ago at 18:35. (Their signal becomes much better after nightfall here in the SFBA.)

That thread title scared the bejeezus out of me! Thankfully, loud and clear in San Diego. How cool is it to be able to hear Golden Oldies on the skywave. I find it so incredibly nostalgic. Long live KYNO!

Thank you all for responding. I probably should have said something earlier but when I checked the stream on Thursday evening, the oldies had returned. I'm guessing that what happened was a technical issue on their end. (In fact, on Thursday morning before I even posted this thread, all of the stations owned by this owner were down at around 5am PDT but when they came back an hour later, the KYNO feed was still streaming KWDO-FM.)

I'm going to make a polite suggestion based on what happened here.

Given the fact that many here do listen via streams, and this incident proves that streams do go down sometimes or get misfed*, it is probably wise to presume that these things happened sometimes and not overreact by posting with a thread title that nearly gave Kat a heart attack.

"Is KYNO gone?" creates a natural reaction of either a format change having taken place or the station going silent. Even I, at first glance, thought it might be the latter.

And in this case, Ted's original post meant the former might have been the case. Either way, it raised concerns (at least among the five of us participating in the thread) that something terrible had happened.

I only say this because I turn 70 next month and do not want RD to be the cause of a heart attack.

(* - And it could have been something as innocuous as a Barix decoder malfunction. We had that happen on KOSL briefly a couple of days ago.)

While your suggestion is a very legitimate one, I should point out that in all fairness, I *really* didn't know when I posted the original thread whether or not KYNO had changed formats. The stream was playing one thing, the website was saying something else, and I had had recent experiences where when the stream didn't match the website, it was the website that hadn't been updated and not the stream. In addition to all of that, you had posted on an earlier thread (about 2026 media predictions, if memory serves) that stations playing 1950s and 1960s oldies were going to drop like flies (not your wording but your intent) in 2026 and I literally thought that KYNO was, in fact, the first to fall.

Anyway, if I caused KK or you to make a quick rush to the nearest ER, I fully apologize for being the catalyst.

My point, Ted, is that a thread title with that alarming choice of words, was what caused momentary panic. If I may, given what you reported above, here are a few thread titles I might have used:

KYNO stream running KWDO
What's up with the KYNO stream?
Problem with KYNO stream

My point is actually what you said above:

With that being a legitimate concern, a thread titled "Is KYNO Gone?" is what causes those heart attacks.
