Is "LIVE" really live?

I watched the Fox 6 pm news with Bret Baier tonight. At one point he mentioned a snowstorm headed toward the northeast. But that snowstorm passed through last night!

Then he played a recording of President Biden telling the Supreme Court nominee that she is his selection. He said the conversation occurred, "moments ago." But in fact it was hours ago.

What's up with that? If not fake news, definitely stale news.

I apologize that I didn't see your post until now. The cable news channels have conditioned us to a 24/7 news cycle, but lo and behold, there is not something newsworthy every second of every day. But, they don't want people to turn away from their program, so they try to fill it in with reruns. It's good on you to notice that FOX did, in fact, pull this stunt on you. Repeats in themselves are not fake news, however, because normally they would edit them to compensate for the time difference. However, I have come to accept that CNN, FOX, MSNBC, etc. have at least a slight slant at all times and I take everything they say with a grain of salt. I'm better off waiting for a weekly round-up from CBS or something.

So yeah, this is definitely stale news IMO. Even in this ever growing interconnected world of hours, there is still some lulls in "excitement". On a related note, that's what frustrates me about The Weather Channel nowadays. They'll cover hurricanes, tornados, floods, blizzards, etc., and that's fine, but they over cover it and over dramatize it for ratings. Not only that, but they repeat the same talking points (with different faces, of course) because they know that the event they are covering is actually not that exciting. Somehow, they have left a lot less room for truly local forecasts. Remember when "Local on the 8's" actually meant something? Now, you're lucky to get it 2 times an hour, because they want to get back to the national story, or God Forbid that they would cut into their own reality movies and shows like "Storm Chasers" or "Ice Road Truckers". Even when they focus on your area, they will choose a larger city, almost every time. However, I do applaud TWC's efforts in covering "Winter Storm Xylia" back in March 2021. But after that, I really didn't watch anymore. I have an app on my phone that can do everything their TV channel won't, and It will be that way for the long run. Not that TWC can't on TV, because of that thing called the Intellistar has proven effective time and again on cable, but just that they don't care in the slightest anymore. RATINGS!

One day, I could see something like "The Best of the Weather", maybe even an anthology.

But yeah, the news is on repeat a lot... You might have a host say a few things, and then they pull up footage they showed the previous hour or so.

Even with music performances. They would give the audience at home (sometimes) the illusion a band was live by having only the singer perform live, when the backing band sounds just like the album, so the musicians might not even have their amplifiers on.

Sorry, I'm late checking into this thread as well. All good points.

I like, "The Best of the Weather!" That has podcast potential! Most podcasts have a very short shelf life. For example, "The Marketplace Minute," is updated 3 times a day, while the markets can gain or lose hundreds of points in seconds.

At least we know a podcast is stale, but broadcast TV and radio should be truly live, IMHO.
