Is LPB still alive?

I only have the one number on their website.

Has anyone spoken with George or anyone there recently?

Any other numbers, including cell's worth calling?

I really need to contact them urgently.

Thanks

Phil

I've been hearing this alot from people on my listserv groups. Apparently LPB and Radio Systems are MIA.

very rarely do i hear of someone getting through to them.

Since a purchase made from them in March I have been unable to reach anybody by phone or email. At this point I would consider LPB out of business.

Radio Systems is certainly not MIA. With regards to low power AM, we continue to manufacture our TR-6000 TIS transmitter, and we also support our venerable TR-20 transmitter. The marketplace for carrier current and other part-15 broadcasting applications has certainly waned in recent years, thanks to the Internet, while the marketplace for our part-90 transmitter has skyrocketed. We still do attend and speak at the IBS show in New York every year.

As you may know, our console and StudioHub line are our core businesses and have been since the 1980's. Companies that don't adapt to changing marketplaces will always go by the wayside... ITC and Audiopak, anyone?

It is my understanding that Dave and George are no longer with LPB; Dave apparently has acquired the rights to manufacture the Dynamax console line; his ad can be found in the most recent Radio Guide magazine.

I called LPB and someone said "hello", I asked about a part & the guy took down my description word for word (it was apparent that he had no idea what I was talking about). He promised a call back with price & availability. That was 2 months ago...I think they are kaput. Sad...

I had EXACTLY the same experience when I was looking for an arena system. Asked for many specifics and then promised a call back. NO DICE.

YMMV.

I'll be honest. I did not get a rather warm reception from the person at LPB when I recently asked about service for an LPB FM Stereo cable modulator. He said for me to "e-mail the question to the e-mail address on the website". He was rather rude and abrupt. So much for that...... No reply whatsoever. LPB used to be very dependable. I have a feeling that I will have to take my business elsewhere and buy a new (different make/model) FM Stereo Cable modulator for this hybrid Part-15/Internet college station. I'm truly disappointed with the total experience I got this time around from LPB.

Peter,

I smelled the writing on the wall for LPB while building up a Part 15 for a local high school, so I second-sourced my FM cable modulator (used as an STL to get the audio from the studio to the leaky coax FM transmitter via their internal CATV system) as well as what would have been an LPB Sky One transmitter. The 5 watter for the leaky coax was a Broadcast Warehouse box and my cable modulator from an outfit in PA. If I can locate my copy of the paperwork I'll tell you the vendor I used.

Thanks, Bill. I'll appreciate any info you can send my way. Thanks, again!

Since I started this thread I've heard from Arthur Snyder ([email protected]) and have spoken with a George ... on (267) 252-5092 to say that all's ok certainly on their transmitter line.

I did not enquire about other equipment.

I'd still like further feedback due to the fact I'm in the UK and don't wish to rush into a losing money situation.

Having to chase after a company is unacceptable, plain and simple. I work for a school district that was about to plunk down some major cash to purchase equipment from them - their phone system has been screwed up for almost two years now (when you dial an extension you'd hear part of a phone conversation instead of any IVR prompts). Add to that no returned emails after sending multiple copies and you know what you've got? You have a company that has no respect for the customer - PERIOD! I'm glad I had enough sense to see the writing on the wall. If I was still engineering AMs with LPB pre-sunrise/post sunset transmitters I'd be ripping them out, sending them to the crusher and replacing them right now! No support? No money out of my pockets (or my employers' or contract customers) for you! Could you imagine if a major player like Harris treated their customers this bad?

Peter: The company I used was Nickless Schirmer and Company for the cable modulator - http://www.nsccom.com/ - I had great dealing with them and I'd use them again for the type of gear they deal with. The cable modulator I got from them is a Drake model FMC-1000. Frequency agile, accepts both RCA unbalanced and XLR audio inputs and has a built-in compressor/limiter (defeatable). The only thing I wasn't thrilled about is it's powered by a wall wart type power supply, otherwise it's a great piece.
