Is Magic going Yule too?

Saw a little blurb in the Herald today that mentioned Magic 106.7 going all Christmas, anyone have any confirmation? If so, will this break Oldies' yule log? I know that they've done holiday music streaming via the web in the past, so are the gals at the Inside Track confused, perhaps?

For the heck of it, I just tuned to Magic (never listen to them normally) just to check and, as of 1025am on Wednesday the 23rd, they are not all-Christmas music. In fact, clicking on the Just Played link, no Christmas music has been played at all this morning unless you count "Holiday" by Madonna as Christmas music.

They are running holiday promotions as mentioned on their website, www.magic1067.com, such as the "Nutcracker Weekend" that will apparently stretch over the entire Thanksgiving weekend starting at some point today or tomorrow. That doesnt necessarily mean they will play Christmas music, though.

There were also some unconfirmed reports that Joseph Gallant was spotted at
One Herald Sq yesterday. He was dressed as St.Nick and left a bunch of
Christmas CD's in Laura+Gayle's office.

It wasn't me!

My comment: It's possible the Inside Track girls are confused about webcasts versus over-the-air broadcasts.

WMJX-106.7 has never gone all-Christmas on the over-the-air signal, but has run an all-Christmas webcast for several years.

In fact, WMJX last year was one of only a few Soft Adult Contemporary stations that did not go all-Christmas.

I'm of the opinion that were WMJX to go all-Christmas this year, they would have already done so, and would have done so prior to WODS-103.3.

But stranger things have occured.

This is a link to the part of the Inside Track article speculating about Magic. It appreared in the paper as one of several items at the end of the column under the heading "We Hear....".

Be glad WMJX is not owned by Christmas Channel (Clear Channel).....yet. Were Magic A Clear Channel Property, it probably would have been running an all-Christmas format for a couple of weeks, and would have added insult to injury by running the all-Christmas version of Delilah.

I doubt that. The Boston Herald gossip column is the bastion of integrity in Boston media. I don't think those ladies would print something as blatantly misinformed as that.

mumbles made them the official city of boston 'holiday'
radio station this year. december 1 is the boston common 'holiday tree'
lighting ceremony and magic is the media sponsor. when they light the
tree, magic goes all-'holiday'. it explains why there's no christmas
channel on their website this year.

I don't think it's misinformation as much as it may be confusion on the writers' part as to what may be on the air and what may be on the web.

I'm not saying WMJX-106.7 won't go all-Christmas, but given that it has never done so (while other Greater Media-owned Soft AC's have) leads me to think that it might not. I think that if Magic was going to do it this year, they would have started it before WODS-103.3 did.

You missed the sarcasm, didn't you, Joey? ;-)

Magic has gone all Christmas a real long time ago, just not recently.

He didn't miss it...he just needed to make his 75th post of the day. ;o)

That's sarcasm too. I'd continue on and mention that it's his quest to reach 10,000 posts by year's end but someone on another board here slammed me for that last week so I wont mention it again.

Really. I won't.

Really
