Is Middle Georgia About To Get Sunny And 99?

All Access reports Cecil Staton is buying WNNG. No word yet on the resurrection of 99.9 in Undilla, WQSA. It went dark in September.

Since WQSA has been off the air, I'm getting WSNT from Sandersville. They're going by "Waco 100", just like WACO in Waco, TX (also on 99.9).

Wow! If the sale goes through, that would mean Staton Broadcasting would own 2 FM's (WQXZ-98.3 and WRPG-103.9) and 2 AM's (WCEH-610 and WNNG-1350). All four stations would reach all or part of Houston County. As for 99.9, maybe some form of AC music would work in the "de-facto" Warner Robins market. Anybody want to comment?

If the 1350 sale goes through it would give him kind of an AM/FM combo in Houston County. The 610/98.3 properties would be like a Hawkinsville AM/FM combo. If he were to buy the Unadilla station,he would own 5 properties in that area.

Actually 610 and 103.9 would be the Hawkinsville AM/FM combo, wouldn't it? After all, both WCEH and WRPG are licensed to Hawkinsville.

The Staton folks are being very secretive about the "new" Sunny 99. Remember you read it here first!

WCEH and WRPG are licensed to Hawkinsville, but the FM is like totally focused on Warner Robbins.WRPG=Warner Robbins/Perry

The application appeared today. Gordon Van Mol (Chase Broadcasting) selling WNNG to Cecil Staton (Golden Eagle Broadcasting) for $650,000. Interesting. Is Gordon retiring?

Oh, and on the WACO 100 bit... WSNT has been using that for *years,* since they're in WAshington COunty (lots of things there are Waco this, Waco that).

I'm assuming WSNT had been off the air for a while. Is that correct? They're not showing up on Radio-Locator, and the FCC database shows them as dark.

You might be right on that one. Radio-Locator.com also shows that WSNT-AM is currently off the air, and there's no mention of a WSNT-FM either.

No...WSNT (AM & FM) are still operating, albeit under an STA (Special Temporary Authority). They (and a few others) failed to file for their license renewal when required (by late December 2003...all Georgia licenses expired on April 1, 2004).

Most of the stations that "forgot" (WSNT's problems were blamed on Jim Slawson [their engineer, and the one who had always handled these things], who had died earlier in the year), submitted late-filed renewal applications, after receiving a letter from the Commission, which informed them that their licenses had expired, and that their call letters had been cancelled. Along with their late-filed renewals, most of these stations requested (and were granted) STA's, in order to keep operating.

As far as I know, there has been no final action on any of these late-filed renewals.

Radio-Locator will show a station as silent, if their call-sign cannot be "pulled up" by their automated updating process. WSNT's "official" call-sign is now DWSNT (the "D" stands for deleted).

If...and it's a HUGE if...WSNT-FM is not renewed (and I highly doubt that), WQSA would be able to locate to a more desirable transmitter site and/or upgrade to a C3. To say the least, it'll be interesting to see if 'SNT fails to receive a renewal.

Re: WSNT

Thanks for the clarification Jay. Now that WQSA is back on the air, though, no more listening to Waco 100 here in Macon.
