Is MMR the worst rock station in America?

I was on the MMR website, allaccess.com, and yes.com and began to realize WMMR plays roughly the same two hundred songs from about 35 artists. No variation. I will be the first to say rock radio is a disaster and there are many bad rock stations out there, but in terms of variety, song selection, etc., is WMMR the worst rock station in America?

This must have come from a "would be to a could be" that has never done real radio in their small life.Look at the last numbers ****head.#4 is not to shabby. So what is YSP then? It's good to be Bill Weston right now.Rember the rule,if you don't like what you hear on the radio, change the station.Der!

I had a late ride home last night, between 10:45 and 12:15, and I had MMR on most of the way. I heard "Stone Cold" from Rainbow, which I highly doubt is on any stations top 200, constantly played songs/artists, I also heard "Welcome Home - Sanitarium" from Metallica, and my favorite new rock song, "Truth", from Seether. "Deuces are Wild" from Aerosmith was playing when I pulled into my driveway. MMR helped me stay awake on the ride. I thought their playlist was excellent last night, and I really like the MMRchives thing when they play songs that have not been played for awhile.

I am getting tired of hearing "Photograph" from Nickelback? Sure. Is MMR the only station overplaying that song? No. However, from a business standpoint, when you have a rock CD come out, and spend 15 consecutive weeks on the Billboard top 15 (a rare achievement these days), if you are a rock station, you need to play the single from that CD, becuase obviously people like it, or the CD would have tanked faster than Bo Bice can break his ankle.

I would love to have another full time rock station in Philly, with a sligghtly different playlist than MMR, so we could have more rock variety around here, Until that happens, MMR is my first preset, I am glad that we still have rock in Philly. According to the Arbs, I'm not the only one.

200 on the playlist? Why that would make it the rock station with the longest./deepest playlist in the nation :) Only the rock stations on XM Radio would have deeper playlists.

You are right, not in radio. However, MMR's lack of music diversity (esp. Alternative) drove me to SIRIUS.

YES, YES, YES, calling them a Rock station is giving them more credit than they deserve. MMR is one big trainwreck, they are extremely lucky P&S saved their sorry butts. The one time they were starting to sound a bit better, is when Sam was there, at least he was leading them in some sort of Active direction. I am old so I am not knocking Pierre, he is almost my age, but he does not belong there, and the music is STILL all over the place. I heard music from the Psychedelic 70's, to Margaritaville to Grunge.

While the music is "all over the place" as you put it, all of it is rock music. Go on Radio and Records website, look at the 12+ numbers for the top 10 markets, and see how many rock stations come in their top 5. Good luck finding them, there aren't many.

You say over and over again that MMR is a mess, and is not a rock station, and you give credit to Preston & Steve for "saving" MMR. Before Preston and Steve came to MMR, and before "Free FM", MMR beat YSP in ratings ALL day long (Except for Howard, and Howard only), especially during Pierre's shift (you know, the guy who "doesn't belong there"). Pierre's audience often doubled Tommy Conwell's.

With the exception of the morning show, MMR has been beating YSP for a long time. Now they are beating them in the mornings as well. Until there is some sort of competition that caters to one form of rock music (heavy metal, alternative, new, or whatever) MMR will continue to play all types of rock songs. They may not appeal to you, but they do appeal to a large number of people in this area. Whether you like it or not, they are Philly's #1 rock station.

MMR is doing a great job trying to play all the diffrent genres of rock. They play classic - alt. - modern rock - active rock - sometimes even some punk. FM sucks thats the truth that what drove me to internet radio.

I have been listening to SIRIUS constantly -- you can't beat the playlists.

It may be the end of rock radio.

No way, WBAB up here is the worst. (LI) Its like a 60's and 70's class reunion everyday with Nickleback How you remind me thrown in . I hate the fact that they call themselves #1 Rock station. They don't even try to play new artists. Trust me MMR is better, at least you here new rock artists from time to time. Now when you say all over the place you must mean classic rock then a modern rock song then back again. The station up here that is like that is 98.5 the Bone. Its our only hope for hearing new rock, they have gotten better, but still way to broad of a playlist for my taste, can't keep them on for more than 2 songs. Last weekend i listened to YSP they sounded pretty good. Alot of 90's rock with new rock/alternative thrown in. Wish they did that full time. Just my 2 cents. :)

MMR's music is all over the place and has been for some time now. I only listen now for Preston & Steve. When they cut to music, I change the station.

NO.
Although that would be a real coup for Philly to have the WORST rock station in America.

I would say no. They do surprise me with some of their song selections at times, even though I don't find myself listening often because they tend to delve into soft rock and certain boring classic rock acts sometimes.

I can say this: The title of Worst Rock Station in America was vacated two weeks ago by the former WXRK, 92.3 K-Rock in NYC. Now THAT station was a chore to listen to - and it was the only place there that played any new rock at all!

Yup, it was painful shuffling through the Rolling stones, and doors to finally here greeday, and slipknot. Many times i would just flip on my MP3 player. :)

101.7 Boston is the worst rock station in America . 101.7 cant get a 1 ( ratings ) in a rock loving city ( market ) . Just think if , Hot 97 New York cant get a 1 in a Hip Hop loving New York city . If a station plays Rock in Boston , they should get over a 1 , even if the D J's or whatever is bad .
______________

Slipknot??! You could include them under the category of "Bands that Ruined the Alternative Format"! (Good God "Freestyle", what would Mozart have thought of your abominable taste in music!-LOL!!).
