Is Movin' doing any Billin' ?

I've been listening to Movin' here and there, getting a better feel for what they're doing, noticing that the music lineup is improving somewhat. There's definitely no doubt someone has been manually adjusting the music logs for at least a week or so now. I've had it on here for the past 2 hours, probably the longest stretch I've been able to listen yet... and I'm just thinking... "have they even stopped for any spots yet?"

If they are running any commercials, I guess the breaks were so short, I just unconsciously tuned them out while I've been working on some various things here. I'm usually the type to start surfing the dial after just one spot, but it just clicked in my head that I've heard the legal ID for the 2nd or 3rd time this morning and I haven't touched the radio once.

If they aren't running any commercials... well, another great stab at Y and others who went all-Christmas... but how long can they survive without moving any inventory? And are they doing any outside promotion? If they are, I haven't seen it... kinda counterproductive to be putting up this attack against the all-Christmas formats if people don't even know about it....

I've listened quite a bit and haven't heard a single commercial. They've been on the air now for approx. 15 days and not a single ad.

I think it is a very smart stradegy! Just play music..pound in the listeners heads the great music. Let the audience know who you are! I am sure in January they will have commercials. It is like a brand new station start up.
They might not have Movin revenue now...but in the long run, this commercial free month will help them overall.

Agreed, commercial-free is a great strategy... but is word of mouth enough?

I'm really surprised I haven't seen any billboards or TV ads. Then again, most of my driving is on one side of town, so I see a few billboards, but I usually have no need to go downtown. Most of my TV watching is during prime-time programming where a smaller, independent owner probably wouldn't have the dough to buy time, and obviously the station hasn't been around long enough to prove itself worthy of trading air time with TV.

I don't usually have time to read the paper, whether it be the PS or the New Times... so if there have been print ads, I haven't seen any. Anyone else?

The guy's probably losing enough money by going commercial-free for all this time... and that'll probably continue into January, which is traditionally slow for sales. So I can understand if he doesn't have cash for outside promotions, but still seems like almost a wasted effort if nobody knows about it.

I know this is probably a crazy thought, but... What are the chances that Movin' is just a tease or stunt before a bigger format launching in January? I agree that It's really odd that there is no promotion for it and their web site has no info on the station or anything.

I actually think it would be a very very bad idea to promote now. why?
1. No on air staff yet.
2. its the Christmas Season. People dont really have time to watch TV.
3. Any Network TV is in Re-Runs. Which makes even le ss people watching TV.
4. No Ratings Book Surveys Now!
5. Book doesnt begin until Jan 11, 2007

I bet the promotional campaign will start around Jan 11th. That makes alot more sense than waisting a Promo budget now.
As far as the company haveing money to support a music only month. They must have money.
1. They run disney radio on 3 AM's (they just bought WAMF 1300 oswego). And they have a ton of local commercials on Disney stations.
2. They are the same guys that sold Clear Channel the DOG/Nova for like 5 million! And I think they paid like $ 700,000 for it.
3. One of the Owners use to own 95x and UPN 43/WB43/MY 43. And he sold them for several Millions.
4. Plus they own Religious/Ethnic/Brokered station-WVOA and WSIV.
5. ANd one of the partners owns Low powered Tv staions from Buffalo to NYC.

So they have $$$$$$
