Is Nassau Broadcasting the Anti-Christ??

Well.. this is a question I've recieved alot lately since Goldman Sachs Took charge... The answer is yes and no.. No, Nasau doesn't do anythings dfferently than any other broadcaster and they shouldn't receive the same heat they have and here on the message boards.. However, they are guilty, along with Clear Channel, CBS, Press, and whoever else you need too name as far`as killing playlists, firing jocks and automating the whole processs...
Why??? Because it saves money stupid!!! But 350 song rotations, voicetracking specialists and total ignorance of local markets is not the savior of terrestrial radio.. PD's and GM's need to pull their heads out and combat the new sources of media, instead of pretending they don't exist! They need to go the NTR route & start mining gold from different avenues, and not count on the cash cows of the past!
Terrestrial radio is dying a slow death, unless your local GSM's can figure how to counter the demo intrusions they receive on a day to day basis... They are SCREWED!!! Radio needs to wake up... Unfortunately its too late... You have too many head in the sand Programming VP's(hello Michelle Stevens, sorry but that is a totally necesary dig) That keep the head in the sand on 20 year old plan while the technology and marketink behind it changes on a daily basis...
This is why our industry that we grew up with is dying... Lunk heads who can't understand the new methods of media delivery, and instead of being pro-active, become re-active! Radio as we know it is dead! Screw terrestrial, a whole new media is upon us on the net!! Lets embrace it, and put the train wreck know as Terrestrial Broadcasting to bed!!

spoken like a true internet radio nerd, plooker. ;) Nassau is no worse than anybody else...blah, blah, yawn....EXCEPT for the fact that they tend to buy properties with signal problems - signals that other operators have passed on buying FOR THAT REASON. Why does Nassau do that? It's odd and frustrating.

When I saw the thread title, I thought Suffolk, er, Nassau (sorry Long Islanders) was broadcasting addresses by Nicolae Carpathia (the Antichrist of the LaHaye/Jenkins "Left Behind" novel series, a fave of mine back in the day).
;D

The now defunct Spanish Language Mega Broadcasting did the same thing. See below.

They bought 104.9 in Egg Harbor New Jersey (Now SOJO 104.9) and tried to market it as their Philadelphia station. Problem is the signal didn't come in in most of Philly. I couldn't get it at the 30th Street Train Station.

They bought WARE 1250 in Ware, Massachusetts which is a town halfway between Springfield and Worcester and market it towards both markets when the signal didn't come in that great in either city. Especially Springfield which has its own station on 1270.

It's a sign of a company or owner who really, really wants to be in the radio biz and play with the big boys, but really has no business being there. There are people who are in way over their heads. They don't have the money to purchase REAL signals and properties, so they buy the scraps and delude themselves into thinking that it will work. This puts all of their employees' jobs in danger. Seems pretty selfish to me. Go get a real job to get your radio biz kicks (like a GM or VP gig within another company) and stop running compromised properties into the ground and ruining livelihoods.

Nassau seems to program all of their stations, regardless of format, in the same manner, using their CHR/Hot AC stations as the template. Having a tight rotation and playing the same songs every 90 minutes is great for the CHR lover, but doing it on your classic rock stations just causes tune-out. Granted, in the classic rock realm, it's not the songs that are repetitive, but the artists. Their country stations seem to have an even TIGHTER rotation of songs...again, not necessarily a bad thing, but....

I agree with the 'head in the sand' statement....lots of PD's in the smaller markets who phone it in, because no one is watching...

so when I posted this thread months ago..it was trying to be as a wake up call to certain alternate media delivery system that I am currently consulting.. However, what seems to be happening with these other outlets(not revealing sources here to protect my job) is the folks from terrestrial who migrate to these places(Be it Internet, satellite or other) Bring their same dead ideas to new vibrant delivery systems.. Time for you 40+ somethings to hang it up, put your nose in Selector, leave it there, and GO AWAY!!!! Traditional broadcasting methodoligy is no longer effective. Times and Technology have changed! Why can't you guys get this!!! So damn frustrating!
