IS PIERS MORGAN'S BOAT ALREADY SINKING ?

from deadline.com (edited a tad)

Piers Morgan started off as a close No. 2 cable news program at 9PM on Monday (2,100,000 viewers, 600,000 in 25-54), then fell 40% on Tuesday but still finished second with his Howard Stern interview (1,126,000 viewers, 551,000 in 25-54).

Wednesday night, Piers Morgan Tonight (1 million total viewers, 239,000 in 25-54) slipped further to finish behind the time slot leader, Fox News's Sean Hannity (2 million total viewers, 565,000 in 25-54) and MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow (1.1 million, 221,000 in 25-54).

Wednesday was Condi Rice. Tonight was Ricky Gervais. (Interesting for the first 10 minutes, then snooze-alert, IMO).

Ratings are meaningless at this point. The 2nd and 3rd or even 4th week will tell the story. But my instincts tell me that CNN still has a major problem in prime-time. I still think CNN can become relevant again with "all-breaking, all-the time". It's a niche that isn't being provided, especially during prime-time.

I honestly don't like this show. Piers Morgan and Larry King are two big contrasts.

Larry's show was a very light-ended talk show where the guests got to push whatever they want. He purposefully has said that his show is "into-tainment" and not real journalism.

Piers tries to push an intense mood that is even shown when he goes straight into the interview and avoids even saying who he is and what he's doing there. After a while, the interview gets tired and bland, eventhough he's trying to get "the tough questions answered". I loved this guy on Celebrity Apprentice but I just don't think this is gonna work for American audiences. Get someone bashing Obama on the network and just see those ratings skyrocket!

I think Morgan's boat sunk even before the show aired. Kind of like the Titanic not making it to New York back in April 1912.

For some reason I keep on having this "gut feeling" that CNN will offer Katie Couric the hosting job once her contract with CBS expires.
