Is Radio even worth talking about here?

Noticing the complete lack of any interesting topics to discuss (with the possible exception of the recent WSB flip), got me to wondering if you wonderful posters of Radio Info have finally run out of things to discuss since we seem to cover the same few topics in every thread.
1) Speculation on some station flipping formats. Will it work or not.
2) Signal coverage (or the lack thereof) of many stations but especially WGST
3) Which radio operator (Cumulus, Clear Channel, Citadel) is behaving badly. (Did you notice they all begin with the letter "C"?)
4) Will Neil Millman EVER program his station?
5) Free advertising for Rodney Ho's blog and AJC sites.
6) Does anybody really CARE how any of this affects Q-100?

Our topics seem to show that, like our industry, we have run out of original ideas. Or, is the condition far worse than we ever could have even imagined?

To answer your questions:

1) Yes and no. If it involves Cox, it will always work. If it involves Clear Channel, it will never work. With the others, roll your dice, move your mice.
2) You can never have enough signal coverage, even if you are a class A clear with a 50K nondirectional signal. Or cume (or is it TSL--I forget). Or salespeople, as long as they are all on straight commission.
3) Yes. So do CBS and Cox. And cookie.
4) When my daughter gets her broadcast engineering consultancy started.
5) As an AJC blogger, Rodney Ho falls under Cox's waiver of the radio-TV-newspaper cross-ownership rules.
6) Yes, just like Just Brakes, we really do care.

As with almost all internet forums like this one, a clique develops of steady regulars. When newbies attempt to join into the discussions by offering a slightly different perspective or challenging the conventional wisdom, the clique circles its wagons and freezes the newbies out, usually by ignoring them.

I've seen this happen in forums dedicated to gourmet cooking, religion, politics, radio, movies, and music.

It is the natural order of places like this. It has been this way going back to the pre-internet days of RIME and Fido.

Never mind one Atlanta station vs another. I, for one, would be interested in hearing people's thoughts about the viability of terrestrial broadcast radio in 2010 as a whole. The emptier the sink gets, the faster the water swirls around and down the drain. And the Atlanta market has seemed to lead the way in management deconstructing their stations and erasing all local content.

Are we just here doing deathwatch on something that's going the way of the pay phone?

Does the business model still work?

With limitless personally customized music stations streaming into homes, offices and cars, and with all local content off local signals, what possible reason would anyone have to listen to an Atlanta FM station?

Forget just radio in 2010. Make it mass media in general. Newspaper, Network Television, Cable Television, Satellite Radio, AM and FM.

The business model is changing across the board. None of it will look the same in 5 years. Ce-Lo's F.U. song is already a hit thanks to the web. Radio and "Video TV" will catch up in a couple of weeks. MTV, radio and print are not the tastemakers anymore; they respond to what's already happening.

Take a picture. It's all about to change and believe it or not, "these will be the good old days."

It's normally the newbies fault for being hyper sensitive and not being strong enough to "earn their way in" to acceptance. it's kind of like those people on facebook and other sites who get so depressed and upset over every little thing that someone else does or says or spends all day updating statuses about how love deprived, desperate, or unhappy they are. I've come to learn in all areas of life you don't just give up upon first "ignore-ance". You just keep doing what you do and accept the fact that not everyone will be open to new ideas and people, but in time people normally do open up.

People get offended or give up too early, too much! There've been times when it took me six months of persistently asking for certain material from producers / remixers before I ever got a "sorry I've been super busy, but here's the production you've been asking for - I wasn't even going to release this anymore but I'll let you have this if you don't share" reply. There are also many times when I've messed around with or wrote to women who didn't respond and I just continued making the jokes as if I couldn't care less whether or not I got a response.. 5 weeks / months later..etc, "Man I love all your jokes / everything you say it always gets me cracking up".

Many times in life, people make assumptions and this is where the problems begin. Like Seinfeld said, "Never assume things. That only leads to assumptions." Besides, you can't be "ignored" if your view count is going up, and don't expect to have the highest view counts if you get replies because of course if there are no replies, you will not get repeat views on your post, therefore resulting in less views.

Anyway, you've got to earn and establish your way into a clique. You cannot expect everyone to always just be like "ahhh new person! welcome welcome welcome!!! come in!!" This is especially more true in an age where people are wary of one another. If you want quick acceptance then MySpace is probably the place for you!

Remember, I'm the one who said it has been this way since the days of Rime and FIDO. You don't need to tell me about how getting acceptance works. I was addressing this to the perspective of someone complaining that there isn't much interesting discussion and attempting to present a reason why. I wasn't whining about my own troubles.

This is why I didn't direct this at you, but instead quoted and used it as an example towards all people in general. I got into various examples of different places and people and types of behaviors they produce, then ended it with "Anyway, you've..." which was directed to all people who read this. It was not meant for anyone specifically to take personally.

Long past time to invest in a good internet radio receiver to complement my wireless router. There's so much worthwhile listening still out there...but unfortunately, not here. Thank God the technology is getting better and cheaper by the day.

Magpie;

I've had an internet radio receiver for two years, along with a subscription to Sirius XM for the past 5 years. Combined, it is making a world of difference in my opinion of the radio business, which seems to be alive and well. I do not believe I would get same impression if I limited listening to Atlanta AM & FM.

This board is guilty of BEATING TOPICS TO DEATH. An all-day sucker lasts three weeks on here.

It takes some posters 900 words to say what others say in 15 (concise comments in action).

Yes and you'll find most actual radio insiders are not guilty of that. This is a NATIONAL radio board. Granted it is aimed at both insiders and fans, but it's not some back porch quilting bee and the whole clique concept is just so funny. Look at the front page of this site. Who do you think these ads are directed at? A bunch who remembers what song they heard on any given day in 1993 on their way to The Waffle House? The fact that any given high profile Atlanta radio personality could start posting anonymously here and be looked at as not part of a clique amazes me. Too often this board is about the posters and not about radio.

...I was just making a joke. Sorry if anyone got offended or felt blown off :-\

If I had a point with post #2, it was to 1) point out that a lot of these topics have already been discussed at length on this board because 2) radio, in a single market, is very often a very slow news day and, 3) as a result, we often have a lot of fun with it (albeit with a lot of inside jokes and running themes).
