Is 'RQQ moving more toward Oldies?

In the space of 5 songs, the played "Crimson and Clover" and "Sweet Caroline". I had never heard the first there, and not sure about the second. But do those truly qualify as other than Oldies?

Since the switch (#23,876 b) it's been James Taylor, Bee Gees, 0'Jays and KC mixed in with a few 80's hits from Palmer, U-2 and 867-5309. It has been de-rocked a little bit in the last few weeks and the evolution seems to continue. I still give props to Mac. It's a decent listen. Hope he can keep adding a little life to it, before the next ball drops. Still, a typical 70's core list of usual classic hits with a rock emphasis. I wish it had more Earth, Wind and Fire and 0'Jays vs. The Knack and Billy Joel and Elton John, but that's just my selfish interest kickin in here. Still, some of the songs were not so overplayed in the day and sound great on RQQ.

How is WRQQ doing rating wise since the switch back in July? Have their numbers increased? Or have they remained about the same as they were before the switch?

I still like what 97.1 is doing, compared to Tower days. Mac, I contend a Disco Inferno Weekend could successfully counter 96.3 Jack FM's Totally 80's Weekend. Grab those old 106.7 The Planet playlists. Agree with Tibbs' take on what tunes to add, plus Ohio Players, pre-VH Sammy Hagar, McFadden & Whitehead.

As long as we're addressing Mac, how about this:

Hey, Mac, learn how to backtime! There is no excuse for butchering the song that you happen to be playing at 7:00 p.m. just to get into VH-1 Classics, or whatever it is called.

I happened to be listening at 5:00 a.m. one day, and noticed that they did the same thing to join Bob & Tom. ::)

Afternoon drive on WRQQ has sounded pretty strong as of late. Mac keeps his jock breaks short but pertinent, the music is varied (from late 1960s to mid 1980s) but all hits and, from what I've heard, the music has flowed nicely. I really liked what I heard this afternoon in the four o'clock hour while fighting through Nashville rush hour traffic; yes.com helped me to remember the songs and the order:

Billy Joel - Only The Good Die Young (1977)
The Beatles - Revolution (1968)
Tommy Tutone - 867-5309/Jenny (1982)
Rolling Stones - Tumbling Dice (1972)
Ozark Mountain Daredevils - Jackie Blue (1975)

For as much as 97.1 has been lamented on this board, they are playing songs that cover a broad range but don't get too obscure, at least from what I've heard, in this latest incarnation of classic hits on the signal. I wish Cumulus good luck with it.

Hey, back off Lou - :) Don't start kissing up this late into the format. Hahaha.

I have already stepped up like a semi-real man and admitted my C0Nversion.
I was the king of beating up what was going on forever, because mainly I
actually felt for Mac and the others that have come and gone, because they
seemed trapped by "the system."

Had the "Jackie Blue" cranked Wed around lunch. I like that the majority of
the playlist is/are hits, but not THE hits that are run into the ground. I hope Mac is
allowed to retire and re-enter music at will to freshen, but not burnout the
playlist. And, yes, Mac (i think ya do read this garbage) I was kinda saddened
that the format went to Classic Hits because I figured (surely incorrectly like
everything else I post) that you had to be flat out worn out by the constant
changes, so I say thank you and bravo and please keep Nashville rockin'
and stay around a while. (why did I just say that...) Anyway, I even admit
that I like the blue color on the logo.

Top that Pickney!

Nah, Seriously -you da man! Great and accurate post!

With the Fish and Mix playing Christmas music I turned it over to RQQ. 'Gotta say, sounding great!...After B & T go off at least. Keep it up! (Any chance of throwing in some modern AC? =) Sorry, just trying to fill the void with Mix out of commission.

B&T are keeping RQQ from being all it could be. The show and the promotional clips throughout the day are turning off greater potential audiences. I have noticed when I've listened that there now seems to be fewer B&T promos, but still, any is too many.

It really must be the magic of the Christmas season... either that, or I need eyeglasses, because I am seeing people actually being kind to Cumulus and 97.1. I'm totally confused.

Alright, I'm loving RQQ! DON'T CHANGE FORMATS! Doing a good job Mac. For the love of Pete though, ditch Bob and Tom! I've told many about the station, but they all seem to turn it on on their way to work and are appalled I'd suggest such filth. We'd like to put it on here in the office and for phones when on hold, but before 9am that's not happening. Doing a phenomenal job, but shooting yourself in the foot at the same time.

Couldn't agree more on all counts. RQQ sounding good the rest of the day, but no one on Division seems to understand how much Bob and Tom hurts the station. It doesn't just hurt them mornings, either, because so many won't listen for the rest of the day when they can't stand to listen in the mornings.

I think I'll start a new thread to help RQQ find a new morning show.

Moving towards oldies? 'RQQ is oldies! ;D .... Was nice to hear
"Knock On Wood" by Amii Stewart followed by "Could It Be I'm Falling In Love"
by The Spinners in the middle of the night last night. For a minute I thought
I was in a time warp listening to "Groovin' Hits 104.5" ... Anyway, glad they are doing
something a little different.

0k - here's a querstion since this RQQ stuff has legs. We've seen Mac evolve this station toward
kinda pseudo-oldies. From when it flipped to Classic Hits to now, it's less rock and more funk and fun. Anyone wanna mention a handful of songs that you like being played on RQQ now and a few that still need to go into the overplayed boring pile?

I'd say - more Chicago (like "0ld Days") and more 0'Jays, Barry White ("Can't Get Enough of Your Love") and less Fleetwood Bore, The Knack and Huey Lewis.

What say you hear?

Props, pucks and a peaceful 2011, Mac!

In the last several days, I have heard "Dazz" by Brick, and "Flashlight" by Parliament. Great to hear those long-form '70s jams again! 8)

And I'm even noticing that they are playing the album version of Wild Cherry, "Play That Funky Music." I've been wanting the album version of that one back on the air for years, and now, it finally is! 8)

People, what we have here is "Jammin' Oldies 97.1"! Let's hope they don't go the "Rockin' Hits" route...

Add some early Prince "I Wanna Be Your Lover", Michael Jackson "Off The Wall" album (Not "Thriller", was overplayed way back when), The Knack "My Sharona", any Little River Band, Greg Kihn, Cheap Trick, go the cheese route with Cliff Richard, 80's era Olivia Newton-John.

Mack, you can position 97.1 nicely between and different from Jack and The Rock, all the while not stepping on your sister station's old school toes. Keep up the great work. I like what 97.1 is playing.
