Is Sacramento dead?

There must be soemthing happening other than John Gerry retiring.

What is happening with 1240 KSAC now that they are not Air America anymore?
How does Stephanie Miller sound?

How does KCCL sound since they have had time to fine tune their new format?
Are they still paying album tracks from the 70s? Does it sound like the old KROY at all?

Finally there must be soemthing new at 1440 Eathan Way(Clear Channel). KFBK, KSTE, KHYL, KGBY.

I look forward to your posts.

The better question is, "Is Radio dead"?

The answer, YES! Radio died along time ago Chris. Ok, I'll get off my pedestal, I’m sorry.

Most folks would say they enjoy what KCCL is doing although I'm not so sure I like the sound of the station. I know I know, nothing is more boring or subjective then talking about the processing of a radio station but it sounds very aggressive and ever so distorted at times. Not sure, could just be me.

As far as Ethan Way… The most recent news out of that joint is that KFBK and KSTE have brought back Drew Sandor as news director. I’ve only worked with him for a few days but my first impression; he’s a class act. He seems fully engaged in bringing back the magic that was once KFBK (and KSTE of course).

KHYL just recently hired a morning show host to replace Christina Martinez. Her name is Andrea Gomez and that morning show seems to be adjusting just fine to that change.

KGBY just launched the more variety music weekend where they basically (well sort of) go Jack. Not sure what the trends look like for that…

Anyone else want to jump in here and throw in there 2 cents.<P ID="signature">______________

Drew Sandsor is a class act. Great guy.

Of course, he gets points for me for doing anything to try to return the station to the "halcyon days" of the mid-90's, at least as far as the newsroom is concerned. It won't be easy for him, as the news staff turnover has mostly led the station to hire young, raw, inexperienced reporters in the past few years...but if those young folk have talent and potential going for them, he'll do fine.

The 90's were very good for the mighty KFBK newsroom...for them, let's hope they'll recapture some of that. Drew's a great hire to do that. He was certainly a part of it when he was there before.

Where did Andrea come from? The news item about her said she was a market veteran, but I don't remember her from back when I was there.

DOA.

KSTE finally replaced their imaging voice with a less-raspy-annoying-wannabe voice with something with more "meat" behind it. Finally.

KCCL is sounds pretty good IMHO, The overall product sounds "big," as it well should for the format.

Other than that, its pretty much the same-ol song and dance. Howard's staff counting their days, KNCI leading the pack with the least music per hour, and KWOD skating back to a older-skewing version of what it was before. At least they have some imaging that's done by someone other than the PD, and more than one sweeper that doesn't reference an IPod....

Just my .5 cent.

Oh thank the lord; I can't believe I forgot to mention that... YES, the wanna be voice guy on KSTE has been replaced by Mitch Craig. The windows at the KSTE studio now rattle.

With Halloween on the horizon, you can't forget to make reference to the "Ghost Town" Flash 92.1. Only a matter of days/weeks before those folks will need to find a new home.

Taking into account inflation, here are my .2 cents...
Personally, I'm not digging the whole "Boss Radio" thing. I was driving home the other night, and heard "Jack Hammer" talking up a record (actually, hard-disk version of a song) and didn't know whether to laugh or cry. In his big "I'm a 70's DJ" voice, he was doing the intro to AC/DC's "Back in Black" using words such as "thee" and "thy". I thought I was in a time-warp and stuck in Pocatello in 1980. And, although he is a good guy and long-time Sac radio veteran (legend?), it throws me when Big Jim Hall is intro-ing AC/DC or Peaches and Herb.

Did you hear something about 92.1? Or is this in the same First Broadcasting fixem and sellem higher vein? If you got scoop, lay it out for us to play it out.

Didn't KSTE use Mitch Craig when it signed on the talk format, oh, so many years ago? I believe so...or at very least, when a certain now-departed PD took over the station pre-Clear Channel.

IMHO, Mitch's voice helped MAKE that station's overall image. It's good to hear he's back.
