Is scripps killing "the breaking news" desk?

https://www.ftvlive.com/sqsp-test/2017/4/11/is-scripps-killing-the-breaking-news-desk

When Scripps took over the Journal Broadcast Group, they initiated some company-wide initiatives.

One of those initiatives was establishing a 'breaking news' desk at every Scripps station. Never mind that there's not always enough 'breaking news' to even mention it, let alone, employ a separate anchor specifically to handle 'breaking news' duties.

In some of their markets, Scripps is abandoning the idea through attrition. Take Kansas City, for example. KSHB 'Breaking News' anchor Jane Monreal is leaving to become the M-F AM anchor at the Scripps station in Fort Myers. (They're also losing 'The Now' anchor Terra Hall).

We're guessing there won't be a formal announcement from Scripps, but someone will get the blame for this not working.

Wow yes some cuts could happen at Scripps apparently due to this special seat for breaking news.

The lack of "REAL" breaking news, and the fact the most "news" organizations could or would call a Kardashian with a hangnail "Breaking News" is the real problem.
